TLC interviewed with “The Breakfast Club” this morning to promote their new album. Things during the interview were light and silly, as Charlamagne revealed that Chilli blocked him on social media years ago. Chilli now doesn’t remember why she did, and it made for a comedic moment.
After the laughs over the matter were had, things turned serious as DJ Envy asked if the ladies had any kind of socially conscious songs on their upcoming album.
T-Boz mentioned a song called “American Gold” that addressed topics such as the Black Lives Movement:
American gold does. It’s a song that was recorded before Donald Trump was in office.
It covers the Black Lives Matter movement, and you know I have my rants on social media about that. You know, it bothers me and it prompted us to write [American Gold].
It’s basically saying how we fight for our country. We bleed and we die on this American soil, and we fight for this American gold but America doesn’t always fight for us.
It’s in hope of our Country and us being how we should be. Because you know… Black Lives Matter shouldn’t be about just one thing. It should be all of us trying to stick together. But we bash each other so much and dog each other out. It should be an overall, ‘Lets unite and just help each other out.’
Charlamagne interjects and tells T-Boz the Black Lives Matter movement exists to bring black people together.
When things happen to black people in this country, people don’t stand up for us.
When he says this, T-Boz brings up how some supposed BLM advocates issued death threats via social media.
But we as black people bash each other. Instead of it just being about people getting killed by cops, it should be us sticking together as a people and not just people talking crap on Instagram, “What have you done for your community?” I know what I have done. But a lot of people be just computer thugs.
If you really think someone is misguided, said something you didn’t like or what ever… you would teach them or whatever.
I’m just saying why would you down them or call them names?
People came on my page talking about, ‘I hope you die from sickle-cell.’ They got evil.
If you are really taking up for Black Lives Matter, you wouldn’t say something like that.
When I told that guy, ‘God will deal with you,’ He was like, ‘But T-Boz, I’m just a fan.’
There are plenty of times where I almost died, so when you say that, it doesn’t get under my skin. But, it’s just evil.
Earlier in the year, Chilli also had to defend herself on social media for her thoughts on Black Lives Matter.
Check out the interview below. T-Boz’s comments start at the 13:57 mark.
I mean death threats is never ok but she has to admit her and Chilli have been out here saying dumb sh-t.
Sigh…people are extra harsh on the internet period. This isn’t a black people issue.
I don’t understand how people don’t understand this. Trolling is a huge issue everywhere on the internet. It’s not limited to black people. Block them and keep it moving.
How have they been in the game so long and still not how to talk to the media? That’s what I would love to know. They make mistakes you expect from rookies.
No, she received death threats from trolls. People who like to sit on the internet and talk crazy to celebs. A real BLM advocate wouldn’t be on her account talking crazy. She’s old enough to understand that though.
I wish they would just stop talking about BLM. It’s always disappointing when they do.
*blank stare* It’s always the same song and dance with these two. I really miss Left Eye.
Where is their publicist? Serious question.
Their interviews and views on BLM are starting to overshadow their music. That’s not good.
