Issa Rae and “Insecure” writer Amy Aniobi were on Facebook Live recently to speak about the second season, answering questions from viewers.
During the session, they discussed Lawrence and Issa, as well as Molly’s decision to start sleeping with Dro again, a childhood friend who claims to be in an open marriage.
They first were asked about why Issa and Lawrence did not get back together. Amy explained she wanted the finale to be realistic.
I mean because that’s real. I feel like often you go back and someone has hurt you so much and the source of pain is so deep that you’re like no matter how much I love you, this will be a mess. It’s just like I would never be able to get back in a place with you that’s correct.
When a viewer asked why Molly is such a hoe, Issa pointed out that she thinks double standards are why Molly is getting so much backlash.
Would you say the same thing if Molly were a guy doing those things? And remember this took place over the course of 30 days. So…
Amy also had an interesting take about Molly’s behavior in the bedroom.
It wasn’t like it took place in the same afternoon.
I think what I really love about Molly’s character in this ending beat, that while I think emotionally this might be hard for her to go back to Dro, It’s nice for her to reclaim her energy.
She wants to be a confident sexual person who wants to be with a guy and not get entrapped in the girly feeling. And that to me is commendable and be someone who realizes who they really are.
Issa also expressed how she felt about her character going back to Daniel.
She’s always projecting something on to him. She really hasn’t allowed herself to just experience him without any preconceived notions. It will be interesting to see how they are in the 3rd season.

But Molly is a hoe. So is Issa, Lawrence, Dro, etc.
Molly has issues. And for this Amy person to try to make it seem like there’s anything admirable about her using s-x to cope with her issues is weird to me. Notice how Molly always uses her body to cope after life doesn’t go the way she wants it to. That’s not an empowered person. That’s someone who is need of years of therapy.
I don’t think anyone on the show is pure when it comes to s-x. But does Issa not go to Molly to learn how to hoe? I think that in itself says a lot.
Exactly. I mean did they forget what they wrote?
The finale made me want Issa and Lawrence back together. But I’m assuming that’s not going to happen now. If not, it would be nice to see her in another relationship. I’m not really feeling the hoe phase angle.
Oh please Molly been a hoe since season one. People get on my nerves with this double standard talk like we weren’t all calling Lawrence a hoe when he had that struggle thr–some. It is what it is.
This feedback wasn’t good. And the double standard thing won’t work in this case because Dro is married. So yes, if a man were doing the same thing, I’d consider him a hoe as well. Issa is most certainly right about her character’s interactions with Daniel tho… and it’s quite annoying that she’s sabotaging a potentially good situation.
Whatever. They know damn well Molly is a hoe and always has been. It would be nice if she has some actual growth and character development but I won’t hold my breath. Season two was a letdown.
I think Issa needs to stop wasting Daniel’s time.
