Tyler Perry’s “Acrimony,” starring Taraji P. Henson had a tremendous opening weekend. In fact, the thriller reached number two in it’s box office results.
Previously, “The Hollywood Reporter” reported “Acrimony” reached $1 million in previews the Thursday before it’s opening.
Now, it’s estimated the movie generated over $17 million in box office receipts. The number one movie over the weekend, “Ready Player One,” generated over $41 million. However, “Ready Player One” opened in over two times more theaters than “Acrimony.
The theater count for “Acrimony” estimated to be 2,006.
“Acrimony” was the second movie Taraji starred in this year. Back in January, Her executive-produced movie “Proud Mary” opened to a $13 million MLK Holiday weekend box office.
To celebrate the opening of “Acrimony,” Taraji posted the following to her Instagram account:
So glad I trusted you @tylerperry. ??? We shot this film in 8 days!!! My portion was filmed in 5 days because I was still filming #Empire ? Needless to say I TOOK A RISK!!! Thank you everyone for the support!!! As artists we take risks because of our passion for the ART! It is a vulnerable and scary place to be but I love to challenge myself by taking that leap of faith because, if it doesn’t scare me what is there to face or overcome or how will I grow or transform as an artist? Plus I know #GodIs ?? SO #IaintNEVERscarred ✊? Thank y’all again for this beautiful support!!!

I knew it was going to do good. But either people loved it or hated it. So I’m nervous about seeing it.
The ending was trash. Was good up until then.
A lot of people are mad about the ending. This makes me want to see it now because I’m curious about what happened.
I heard the plot is nothing like what the commercials show. Is that true?
Yeah, that’s true. It’s a lot of twists and turns. Nothing I expected.
I need to see this.
Both Tyler and Taraji have loyal fanbases so I’m not surprised.
I didn’t like it.
It’s nothing what the commercial plot… it’s a good moviie the end umm… I’m like really Tyler Perry. Taraji did her thing tho I can definitely relate too some of the stuff
Now I want to see this movie! It’s nothing like a good ole psycho b*tch flick! lol
I enjoyed this movie and didn’t think I would. Go see it people.
