Spotify apparently had a rebellion from some artists after they announced R. Kelly and XXXTentacion had their music removed from sponsored playlists.
According to Bloomberg, Spotify wanted to root out hate speech and artists engulfed in misconduct, especially misconduct against women. The streaming platform specifically targeted R. Kelly and XXXTentacion at first because of the allegations surrounding them.
Another rapper, Tay-K also had his music removed from playlists. Tay-K is currently in a Texas jail awaiting trial for multiple capital murder and robbery charges. Bloomberg reports that after Spotify made the announcement of their conduct policy changes, artists and their reps reached out against the move.
This includes Kendrick Lamar.
Kendrick and these artists made threats to leave the platform if Spotify didn’t change their stance.
Despite being removed from their streaming playlists, R. Kelly’s streams were unaffected by the ban according to The Fader. He maintained his average, which is around 6 million streams weekly.
At this time, neither Kendrick Lamar’s or Spotify’s representatives responded for comment.
I’m not surprised at all. Kendrick is talented but he has a lot of f-ck boy ways too.
Sigh…
Drake > Kendrick lmao
