Mae leads her family’s Sunday service.
Sophia’s in bed, not wanting to get up and attend James and Mae’s Sunday service to commemorate the last Sunday before Calvary’s torn down. Grace manages to get her out of bed, despite being up and texting all night. Even in the morning, Sophia’s dealing with a bombardment of texts.
Jacob’s almost dressed for the service. Afterward, he and Kerissa will tell Zora about their impending divorce. Downstairs, Charity’s leading the family in song with Karine. Mae then speaks to the family, AJ and Noah included. Mae’s sermon is full of positivity and new beginnings.
After the service, Sophia’s stressing about the racy photos and she’s considering not returning to Hampton over it. She’s also afraid of Grace finding out about the pictures. Meanwhile, Grace and Noah reminisce about their times in church, including the time she lost her virginity inside Calvary to Noah. Grace tells Noah to never tell AJ that story.
Mae then heads down to Tara’s church to confront her about taking the house. When Mae leaves, James heads over to AJ who seems lonely. The two of them seem to bond.
Mae visits with Tara.
When Mae arrives at the church, she sees Tara greeted by her attendees who are thanking her for the food drive she had at the church. Inside, Mae meets with Tara and learns about the church and asks if she had ambitious goals. The conversation then turns to the house. Tara tells Mae that the house could be a center for the people she serves. It’s at this point, Mae realizes a message God gave to her.
Back at the house, James takes AJ into a large shed. Inside, they rip a tarp of a large box. Inside, it’s a 1964 Pontiac GTO. It needs to be put together. He tells AJ if he helps him put it together, he can keep it. AJ happily agrees. Meanwhile, Grace tells Noah about Calvary being torn down in 48 hours if they can’t pull off a miracle. Grace also asks about AJ and Noah says he was low-key when he first moved in with him. Eventually, they bond as she lays on his lap.
Karine gets a distressful call from her grandmother as Bob Whitmore had a wrecking ball parked in front of the church, worrying the congregation. She tells Charity and leaves. Meanwhile, Sophia’s left with her baby cousin as Charity calls Phil’s father Yusef.
Mae receives a vision about the house.
Later on, James and AJ are continuing to talk when Mae returns home rather dejected and defeated. Mae feels they have to give Tara the house. As this happens, Zora hears from Jacob and Kerissa they’re getting a divorce. Zora’s upset about this and eventually storms off, even after Kerissa tells her the divorce isn’t all Jacob’s fault. Kerissa then warns Jacob that if they tell their son tomorrow, there’s no turning back.
AJ and Sophia are with their baby cousin when Sophia tells him about her latest issues. Meanwhile, Grace wakes still in Noah’s lap. After waking, Noah tells Grace about a journal from Mr. Davis. Apparently, Mr. and Mrs. Davis are white. Next, James comes in to tell Grace about Mae’s latest feelings about the house.
Meanwhile, Zora heads into the guest house crying, torn about her parent’s impending divorce. Charity’s still on the phone with Phil’s father but couldn’t get much information from him.
After hearing what happened with Sophia, AJ tells Sophia she has to go back to Hampton. He tells her that she has to grow up and leave the house. And this is just a part of adulthood. The talk seems to stick with Sophia. Meanwhile, Grace stops at the guest house and hears about Jacob and Kerissa’s impending divorce. Zora’s torn up about it and Grace lends an ear to talk. But, Zora doesn’t want to say much, so Grace asks about the old journal Noah told her about. Zora tells her where to find it. It’s under a bed within a large box. Inside, Grace finds many items, including the journal. Inside are sketches of the house and property.
Rochelle returns.
James tells Mae that Grace wants to give her and James the money she received from her biological father. Mae’s distraught about this as it’s a symbol of her demons. It’s at this point, Mae decides to give Tara the house. Charity stops in to tell them she’s going to the church one last time. The family decides to join her. Inside, everyone reminisces and is remorseful. Eventually, they head into the sanctuary and into the pulpit. James then tells Mae to give Tara the house.
Afterward, James and Mae head to Tara’s church. They knock and Tara opens the door. James and Mae are shocked to see Tara’s sister Rochelle Cross walk out. They turn to Tara, looking angry.
