Martell thinks it’s time to be more cautious.
Melody meets with the Holt team to talk about new opportunities for their brand. They have more opportunities to work with different advertisers. As for Melody, a woman who is putting together a play wants Melody to be a part of it. Melody has done plays in the past, but she still wants to meet with the playwright first before she makes a decision.
After Martell finally makes it to the meeting, the couple is told that the Huntsville Rockets want the Holts to represent them. This is a co-ed professional basketball team.
Martell isn’t sure about this and he feels they already have too much on their plate. And they could overstretch themselves time-wise and financially.
So this is something they really need to think about.
Kimmi’s still not ready to become a full-time entrepreneur.
While Maurice is at his Credit 1 USA office talking to his sister, Kimmi walks in with dinner. He’s been studying very hard to take the Bar Exam. And studying at the office is better because it’s much quieter than being at home with Kimmi and Monster
Kimmi tells Maurice that her manager didn’t accept her letter of resignation. So she decided to give him six more months. This isn’t something Maurice is happy about. He believes Kimmi should do what makes her happy and work for herself. But Kimmi doesn’t necessarily want to be an entrepreneur. She loves being a nurse. Maurice thinks she just likes the safety of a paycheck.
So Maurice says that he can cover all her finances for six months so she can leave her job.
But Kimmi wants another six months so she can confidently pay off her son Jaylin’s college tuition. Maurice says he can eliminate that right now, but this is something Kimmi wants to do herself. The goal is for her son to graduate without any debt.
Wanda speaks her mind about the Holts, again.
LaTisha takes Wanda to her hairstylist to get her hair done. Wanda is a little uncomfortable at first, but she begins to enjoy her time there. While getting pampered by a good shampoo job, LaTisha tells her that she doesn’t want to talk about Martell and Melody anymore. But Wanda has no intention of not speaking her mind when she feels good and ready to.
And she’s not okay with Melody kicking LaTisha out of her event. She really can’t understand why LaTisha is considering taking her kids to the birthday party Melody and Martell are throwing their daughters.
She also thinks Kimmi betrayed LaTisha and she’s trying to “buy” Melody. So she’s a shady friend to LaTisha.
While with his dad, Martell opens up about Melody.
Martell and the kids meet his dad for some family fun time. As Martell and his father talk, he tells his dad that spending time with his family makes him happy.
They also discuss Melody. Martell feels like Melody is working too much when they have a new baby. It’s like they work too much and don’t spend enough time with their kids. So it’s probably time to think about hiring someone who could help them.
The next day, Melody meets with playwright Iama. It’s the day before Mariah and Maliah’s birthday party and Melody’s busy as ever. During the meeting, Melody finds out about her character. The character married a mega-preacher and has to deal with the public learning of his affair with his gay music minister.
Iama wants Melody to play this role because of what Melody already revealed publicly. Melody’s impressed by the playwright and can’t wait to read the screenplay.
Things get awkward during the double date with Destiny and La’Berrick.
Later on, Martell and Melody go on a double date with Destiny and La’Berrick. Melody explains that Destiny and La’Berrick were in a long-distance relationship for a while and moving in together is a new experience for them.
During their date, Destiny and La’Berrick revealed they learned the gender of their baby. Martell wants to know the gender but Destiny and Le’Berrick aren’t revealing it. Things get tense when La’Berrick says Destiny has “too much control” over their pregnancy. Destiny says in her interview that La’Berrick needs to learn how to be a husband. La’Berrick also revealed that he was thrown off guard by Destiny moving down to Huntsville and the fact she wanted to keep her last name.
This conversation makes Martell and Melody uncomfortable so they try to change the subject. But, the topic turns to Marsau and LaTisha. Destiny is considering asking Marsau for a bid on her new salon. So, she’s going to invite the Scotts to her salon soft opening. Melody tells Destiny that she, Martell, and the Holts aren’t friends and she tells her that they know other contractors. They then joke that she and Martell can do it. But as a contractor in residential properties, they can only do $50,000 worth of commercial projects.
At Kimmi and Maurice’s, Jaylin’s recovering from a cold. He talks to Kimmi about what’s going to happen when he’s out of school. Kimmi’s excited about the tuition payments and rent she’s going to stop paying.
Jaylin, unfortunately, doesn’t have the project management experience that Marsau needs but Jaylin’s eager to get the experience. He also wants to stay in the house with her and Maurice. Kimmi, however, is going to make sure he’s prepared for adulthood and is going to make sure he’s focused on his career, and paying rent.
Martell and Marsau give each other the cold shoulder.
It’s the day of the birthday party and the bowling alley is packed. The guys are at the alley and Cedarric and La’Berrick joke about Melody kicking LaTisha out of her MBrace Beauty event. Maurice then asks why Melody did that. Martell then wonders why Kimmi left with LaTisha. Maurice felt Kimmi was right to do what she did and he feels Martell would do the same.
Meanwhile, Melody tells Destiny she did invite LaTisha and Marsau to the party. They haven’t shown up yet but Melody figures they’ll show up late. And right on time, LaTisha and Marsau show up with their kids.
Melody puts on a good face and greets everyone. However, Martell and Marsau ignore each other. Marsau says he knows how to have self-control as to not act up in public. LaTisha then pulls Kimmi aside and apologizes for how Wanda confronted her. But Kimmi tells LaTisha she doesn’t have to apologize for Wanda. She also is surprised to see LaTisha. LaTisha doesn’t want her beef with Melody to affect the children.
At their alley, the guys are bowling. Martell and Marsau both feel the other should speak. Maurice thinks the two men not speaking has now made the party very awkward. Interestingly enough, Martell felt Marsau should’ve been the first to speak and he is bothered Marsau didn’t approach.
However, the ladies are able to talk. Melody and LaTisha are off to the side and begin to talk about what happened at Melody’s event. The episode ends on a cliffhanger.
