Trina and Von speak about being on TV and how the family deals with Traci’s passing.

In this first highlight from the “The Braxtons” series premiere, Trina is in the kitchen with her husband Von. She talks about the show returning. It’s been three years since “Braxton Family Values” ended, and Trina wonders how it will work with her sisters again. This is on top of their sister Traci’s passing. They haven’t come together to express their feelings about what happened.

She mentions to Von that their mother, Evelyn, wants them all to visit a grief counselor to talk about Traci’s death. She also mentions that Kevin Jr. does not speak to his father, Kevin Sr., as often as he used to. Von responds that it’s a tough situation for all of them.

Lastly, it comes up that Toni contacted her and wants all the sisters to come together for dinner. She’s in town and has something to tell them.

Toni reveals she’s dealing with a serious heart condition that could affect her touring.

Next, the sisters and Evelyn come together with Toni for dinner. Traci’s presence is clearly missing, affecting all of them. They agree that grief counseling is a good idea. Traci wanted them to always keep a piece of her around. They symbolize this with hummingbird necklaces that they wear in honor of Traci. She loved hummingbirds.

Towanda brought up how they were out one day with Traci, and Traci brought up how she felt a burning sensation whenever she swallowed food or drank something. When she learned of her cancer diagnosis, she told Evelyn she was going to fight.

It also comes up that Kevin Jr. is also dealing with the prospect of a divorce from his wife. They agree that Kevin Jr. should join them for the counseling session because of everything he’s dealing with.

Later, during dinner, Toni tells her family she’s dealing with heart issues and how they caught the matter just in time. As a result, doctors had to install a stint in her heart to prevent a major heart attack from happening. This condition could prevent Toni from touring and performing live again.

Doctors told her Traci was looking out for her. Everyone comes together to console Toni.

The family begins their grief counseling session.

After dinner, Trina and Towanda sit down. During their conversation, they decide to check in on Kevin Jr. During the call, Kevin Jr. tells them that despite Olivia filing for divorce, she’s still braiding his hair. He tells them Olivia doesn’t know if she wants to stay married. They feel for what Kevin’s dealing with and invite him to the grief counseling session. He agrees to show up. Towanda is hopeful this will lead to them working to mend their relationships.

Towanda’s concerned about Kevin spiraling due to what he’s going through.

Eventually, they all head to Toni’s house to meet with Spirit, the grief counselor. All the sisters are there with Evelyn. Their dad Michael and Kevin Jr., call in. As the session starts, they’re all hopeful it leads to more positive moments between themselves. But no one is ready to be the first to speak their mind.

What are your thoughts about the episode?

  1. Putting this show back on TV definitely wasn’t a good idea. Let the family grieve PRIVATELY! It’s definitely not going to be the same without Traci that’s for sure. The family should have had been given time to process and figure out how to move forward with out their loved one. Sad

  2. I really enjoyed these clips and I’m happy to see that this new show will be more authentic, heartfelt, and positive. Traci was my favorite. May she Rest In Peace.
