Zoe Saldana Talks Race and Looks Fabulous In March Issue of Glamour Magazine

By: Amanda Anderson

This has to be Zoe Saldana’s year. She co-stared in one of the biggest blockbuster movies of last year (Avatar), and she just keeps snatches up roles.

I guess it’s quite obvious that she is quickly becoming one of Hollywood’s “It” girls, and she’s only just begun. She has come a long way since her Drumline days, and she has a long future ahead of her.

The beauty recently sat down with Glamor magazine and dished about her success and how she feels about Hollywood’s ignorance to race and diversity. Although the entire interview is a must read, here are some of my favorite bits:

(On Confidence)

“I love aging. Why would I want to be 21 for the rest of my life? Glamour is about feeling good in your own skin.”

(On what matters most)

“I want to be the best daughter, sister, friend and wife I can possibly be—because when I die, I am not going to be buried with my Oscar. I want to love life.

(On race in Hollywood)

“Because ethnic is a word that doesn’t exist in my vocabulary. In Hollywood, you hear things like, “Oh, they loved you but they want to go more traditional.” That’s the new N word. So when [someone says] I look “dark,” I say, “Dark compared to whom? This is just my skin.”

(On her long time boyfriend)

“Well, it’s not like he sits around waiting. We travel a lot, which keeps things alive. We’re very private. It’s worked for 10 years—long enough to go to hell and back.”
