NFL Thursday: Who Came Out On Top?

Cowboys Go Down To The Raiders In Fourth Quarter

After coming off a win against the Cincinnati Bengals, the Dallas Cowboys faced their next challenge, the Oakland Raiders, this past Thursday. Leading for the entire game, all the way up to the 4th quarter, the Cowboys’ lead diminished, putting the Raiders on top for the finish. We all know field goals put points on the scoreboard. But scoring a touchdown here or there could have definitely kept the Raiders from within striking distance. And in this one, Oakland capitalized on the Cowboys’ offense’s failure to score a touchdown on four drives and getting sacked multiple times during the game. The Dallas Cowboys are now 1-1 for the pre-season.

Pats Defeat Super Bowl Champs

Going up against the Super Bowl champs can be a tough task. Either you are highly favored to take them down. Or you are deemed losers before the first ball is snapped. With the performance that the New England Patriots put on, they definitely were not fazed by New Orleans. Costly mistakes late in the game led to the loss for the Saints, which resulted in a winning field goal for New England with seconds left in the game. Although it was not a blowout game by far, many probably expected the Saints to win. After all, they do have a lot of hype to live up to. Will the Saints repeat as Super Bowl champs? It’s too soon to tell. But it’s highly unlikely as the NFL can be so unpredictable at times. Any team could come out on top, especially with the new line-ups that teams have this season.

Ravens Soar Above The Panthers

Just like the game between the Pats and the Saints, the game between the Carolina Panthers and the Baltimore Ravens went down to the wire. This was the first game where Ravens’ quarterback Joe Flacco got to test out his new offense. And everything seemed to be in working order. He went 8 for 12 for 120 yards and completed a 30-yard touchdown pass to Mark Clayton. As for Panthers’ quarterback Matt Moore, he didn’t have much success as he was unable to produce any points during his possessions. With injuries plaguing this Carolina team early on, they may see a few more losses before they really start to pick up some steam. They will face the New York Jets next at home next Saturday.
