Female Feuding: Why Do The Males Of The Industry Get So Involved?

Why do the men of the industry get so involved in the beef amongst female artists?

Just like the beef that transpires amongst male Hip-Hop artists and even sometimes male singers in the game, it often develops between the females as well. Only difference is that when it comes to the women in the game, their beef can become very drawn out and left unresolved for years at a time. And a majority of the time, it’s centered on “She stole my style” or some other petty thing or another. Seeing female artists go head to head is not uncommon by any stretch of the imagination. And can be quite entertaining for those who like to see us go at each other, lyrically or literally. As most of the female artists can hold their own, the men in their camps have a tendency to get way too involved in their feuds with other women. Some of them, a little too much.

As we have always seen in the music industry, with most label mates and Rap groups, many of the members claim to be like a family, treating each other as they would close relatives of theirs. So it’s well understood that taking up for anyone in your “family” is something that you do without any hesitation or thought to it at all. And when someone disrespects your family or comes out of their mouth wrong about them, it does strike a nerve. Apparently, one Young Money rapper can’t seem to keep quiet when people come at his “girl” the wrong way.

On several occasions, Drake has gone out of his way to defend label mate Nicki Minaj when other female rappers start taking shots at her, the main one being Lil’ Kim of course. And he has given us his opinion on the situation a time or two, some of us feel one time too many:

“You don’t have to get on stage and announce your presence and tell people to pay homage. That’s a given and I watched Nicki pay homage to her time and time again and I just didn’t respect it at all and whoever else was on stage with her, I don’t respect that.”

Well obviously Lil’ Kim has witnessed her image being jacked, “time and time again”. And she must not have been present during these times when Minaj paid her respects for paving the way for her. So now what else seems to be the problem Drake?

“It bothered me and I really don’t get too caught up with the Twitter, Internet stuff, but I did see it and I was like, ‘You’re supposed to be a ‘G’ and that just wasn’t ‘G’ to me at all.”

So did he really take Lil’ Kim’s s—t talking about Nicki Minaj to heart? Even though she wasn’t taking shots at him directly? Well, at least at this point in time she wasn’t.

Every time someone, mainly another female artist, has some not so nice words to say about Nicki Minaj, Drake makes it a point to voice his opinion, loud and clear. I know you have a lot of love for Nicki, Drake. We are all well aware of that. But please homie you don’t have to get in the middle of her feuds with other chicks all the time. She’s a big girl she can handle herself just fine.

Now Producer Polow Da Don has taken a page out of Drake’s book and has deemed himself the “mediator” between the so-called beef between Atlanta singers Keri Hilson and Ciara. Only difference is, Polow is playing the instigator too.

In reference to Keri Hilson’s “Turnin’ Me On” Remix:

“Ciara thought she was talking about her when she wasn’t talking about her in particular,” he said. “I had a lot to do with it. I told Ciara, ‘yo, Keri didn’t even want to say half the sh*t she said in that remix.’ I just kept pushing it and pushing it, and then it leaked.”

“Eventually, I talked to Keri, ’cause, you know, we have a good working relationship – she’s signed to my label – I said, ‘yo, you have to stop being retarded and really nip this Ciara thing in the bud.’ I said to the both of them, ‘yo, it’s somebody out there waiting on both of y’all spots,”

Instead of attempting to resolve the beef, you fuel it. Great job Polow. Way to keep black women tearing each other down just to get to the top spot. But then he goes on to say that they need to hash it out and become friends again all in the same breath? Thankfully, I don’t see any hair pulling brawls on the way for Ci Ci or Keri so I think they’re good Polow. This is exactly what I’m talking about though, the over-involvement of these industry dudes in female drama.

When did they care so much about the beef that carries on between the chicks? Thought all men liked girl fights. Guess it’s different when it happens amongst recording artists instead of regular chicks off the street. Money is involved and images are at stake. So it’s important for them to be on their best behavior.

Funny thing is, when males get into it with each other, how often do you see the females get involved? Hardly ever. Until the beef escalates to something that could put someone’s life in danger, you rarely see industry women get in the middle of a male beef. Now if they are dragged into it involuntarily, that’s when you will see the claws come out. Otherwise, they remain pretty chill about everything. It’s called minding your business and focusing on what’s going on with self; something that a lot of these men haven’t quite mastered yet.

A word of advice for the men of the industry…Steer clear of any girl fights. Bickering and being catty towards each other comes with the territory, whether you are an industry chick or not. That happens amongst females from time to time. So there is no need to jump in between us or put your two cents in every time something goes down. These are grown women here. I think they can handle themselves just fine don’t you?
