The Society of Bible Thumper Persecution…Why Are We Mad At Christians Who Read The Bible?

So when did taking the Bible seriously become a bad thing…Christians?

By: Amanda Anderson

Our generation is said to be one of the most intelligent generations this country has seen in a very long time. We’re pop culture obsessed, but we have made the advances in technology a huge part in our daily lives, and since we are internet savvy and intellectually gifted, it’s no surprise that we vary in our opinions and perceptions of the world around us. It’s a given that we won’t always agree on any given subject, but just why has it become trendy to persecute those that are still in alignment to God’s views?

More specifically, why is it other believers that feel the need to attack believers who read the Bible and believe in its beliefs?
I’ve noticed that the Illuminati discussion brings out the worst in believers. In fact, it is this very controversy that has managed to divide believers into various degrees of loyalty to the religion.
I can’t even explain how much my skin crawls when one believer calls another believer a Bible thumper.
And I must ask, when this is the case like it usually is, aren’t all Christians supposed to be Bible Thumping?
Serious question, and it requires a serious answer.
Let’s talk about the many complaints made against the Bible thumpers:
1. They completely believe in the Bible.
2. They believe that God’s views are not outdated, and are not afraid to speak out against those that disagree on behalf of God.
3. They read their Bible religiously.
4. They are judgemental and hypocritical people that hate the gays and those that do not believe in God.
5. They make everything about God.
Hmmm…if I’m not mistaken, a Christian is supposed to believe the Bible word from word. Here’s what God said about the Bible and just why a believer should believe every word of it:

“Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. 2But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.” Psalm 1:1

God’s views are not outdated, for His thoughts and stances on various subjects will remain unchanged despite the change of society:

“God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?” Numbers 23:19

The Bible was not labeled the Instruction Guide to Life just to sit on your nightstand and look pretty, it was presented as a gift to believers and intended to be read and internalized. Those who don’t read it, usually find themselves unsure of just who God is, and even worst, just who the devil is. You can’t discern evil from good if you don’t even read the Bible which gives clear depictions of both.
Judgmental huh? Hypocritical? No, you’re referring to extremists, and every religion and anti-religion has those. The truth is we have a right to speak out on evil and blasphemy against our Father; and that is not judging. Judging is to send one to Heaven or Hell, and we don’t have the power to do that. But we do have the power to acknowledge when someone has done something that goes against God:

“If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’ If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector.” Matthew 18:15-17

“Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage — with great patience and careful instruction.2 Timothy 4:2

We are to judge sin, but to be sure that we offer a solution to that particular sin, and maintain a spirit of encouragement, not criticism.

And yes, everything is about God. Isn’t that why we’re here?
Here’s my biggest problem with this whole movement against Bible thumpers…it’s been directed by other believers!
Yes, it is other Christians persecuting the Christians who are not afraid to speak up for God. We are living in the last and very dark days, yet Christians are divided because it’s trendy to disagree with God.
Oh yes, just how will we look when we go against society for pushing lifestyles and practices that God does not agree with?
How about like God’s people?
The next time you are tempted to call your fellow Christian a Bible thumper for speaking out against evil committed against God, just ask yourself how much you love God. Because if you love God like I love God, speaking out for Him wouldn’t be a burden, or anything to be ashamed of.
God bless.

  1. Love this! I really needed to read this Amanda. I think so many of us are lost right now, and we need to get right before it's too late. Just accepting Christ as your savior, but balking at the Bible surely can't lead to Heaven.
