The Williams Sisters have been forces to be reckoned with for quite some time now. And the younger of the two has just added to her collection of trophies this Saturday. Tennis star Serena Williams just captured her fifth Wimbledon title, defeating third-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska. This win was Williams’ 14th major championship of her career. As snatching tennis crowns is nothing new for the 30-year-old pro, this win was one that shut her critics down after they slammed her for her loss in the 2011 U.S. Open finals. A loss in the fourth round of this year’s Australian Open only added fuel to their negative commentary, questioning her chances of securing another major title.
And now she has proven the naysayers wrong.
Although she took down Agnieszka Radwanska to win the Grand Slam title, Williams gave the young player her props for her hard play and solid effort:
“Aggie played so well. That’s why she has had such a great career, and so young,”
“You guys should give her another round of applause because she’s amazing and she did an amazing job today.”
This Wimbledon win ties Serena with older sister Venus who is also known for slaughtering her opponents on the tennis court too.
Two African American women dominating the game of tennis…How dope is that?
This is an amazing feat! Serena is arguably one of the greatest if not the greatest female tennis player of all time.
