Damn Son: Chad Johnson May Face A Year In Prison For Head Butting Evelyn

By: Taren Vaughan

Chad Johnson saw things take an ugly turn within the blink of an eye after he was arrested for head butting his wife Evelyn Lozada a few weeks ago. The arrest resulted in Chad Johnson becoming jobless as the Miami Dolphins team cut him loose from their organization, caused him to lose endorsement deals and left him on his way to being single again as Evelyn filed for divorce shortly after the incident took place, a filing that, according to rumors, Evelyn supposedly only did because her and Chad’s VH1 show got cancelled after news of the domestic dispute got to the network. Not to mention the fact that the country that hosted Chad and Evelyn’s wedding is looking for all of their money back from the couple too. As for Chad Johnson’s past history with domestic violence, it was discovered that Johnson abused a former girlfriend of his, an act that he was required to put in hours of community service for. However, with this most recent incident concerning Evelyn, Johnson may be looking at some time behind bars.

Gossip Extra reported on the matter:

Ex-Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chad Johnson could be forced to serve at least one year in a state prison for allegedly assaulting his wife August 11 in Davie, Gossip Extra has learned.

While Johnson was originally charged with a misdemeanor for which he’d be unlikely to see the wrong side of the bars, his slapping a girlfriend in 2000 in California could force authorities here to upgrade the current case to a felony – with possibly 12 months in the big house!

Word is Johnson, formerly Ochocinco, pleaded no contest to assaulting that woman, whom he accused of cheating. Just weeks later, he reported to Oregon State University to play college ball.

Eventually, Johnson, 34, was sentenced to community service, which included cleaning up graffiti. He completed his debt to society in 2002 and went on to play for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Because of that prior incident, however, the Broward County State Attorney now could kick the current charge up to a felony, and mandatory prison.

“Florida law indeed gives that power to prosecutors,” said Fort Lauderdale attorney Paul Molle. Molle isn’t representing Johnson but specializes in domestic violence cases. “Whether the previous incident happened in California or Florida, it doesn’t make a difference. I’ve seen it done with other suspects.”

It’s unclear whether prosecutors are planning to do that with Johnson.

“Our office does not disclose our filing options with the media before charges are filed,” said State Attorney spokesman Ron Ishoy.

Johnson’s lawyer didn’t comment.

He is accused of head-butting wife Evelyn Lozada, a star of the VH1 reality show Basketball Wives. She has filed for divorce.

  1. Welp. He should keep his hands and his big water head to himself and keep his wang in his pants. Everyone gets choices in life, and he keeps making bad ones. He probably won’t get a year though.

  2. I still think he’s covering for Evelyn. I believe she did head butt him, and not the other way around. Everyone saw how violent she is on Basketball Wives. And we know she doesn’t think things through until it’s too late. She is capable of hurting people and ruining lives. I’m just saying, something in the milk ain’t clean here.

    1. I think a lot of people feel the way you do because of how she acts on BBW, especially the sport enthusiasts. But at the end of the day, no woman deserves to be assaulted by a man. We have to be real careful about how we treat women in these situations. We seem to keep blaming the women or calling them liars when things like this happen. The truth is, those perfect and quite meek women aren’t the only ones to get abused.

  3. I really don’t see him going to prison. He might be down on his luck to the highest of degrees but i think the whole prison thing is still far fetched. I’m just waiting to finally hear from Evelyn on what happened that night, and Chad too. How did an argument that so many couples have lead to all of this? Crazy.

  4. Child Please! You know Chad ain’t gonna be servin no jail time. But his career and celebrity appeal are in the dumpster.

  5. Can’t a chick be bout it on Reality TV without people assuming she’s like that in REAL LIFE?! Yall know half that mess is fake anyway. LOL

  6. I’m amazed that through all of this, Evelyn has yet to speak up and speak out in some capacity, aside from that statement she issued (which I felt was a crock of isht). I maintain my position that no one, man or woman, deserves to be abused. But it’s difficult to have an opinion on this matter being that there are so few facts.. While I believe reality tv is very much scripted and edited to appeal to the masses, there is something to be said about Evelyn’s behavior and whether there could possibly be some truth to the notion that she headbutted him. The “string of bad luck” Chad has encountered following this incident just seems really severe to me; severe in that it all happened so quickly. I don’t know. I just hope the best for both of them. If their lives were never real before (as depicted by vh1), they’re definitely real now.
