Laura Govan Says Groupies Shouldn’t Be Allowed On Basketball Wives

By: Taren Vaughan

Laura Govan made a return for the second season of Bastketball Wives LA along with the majority of the original cast members. Even before she joined aboard, Laura was no stranger to drama as it was rumored awhile back that she and Shaunie O’Neal’s ex-husband former NBA star Shaquille O’Neal were allegedly sleeping with each other, Laura being engaged at the time and Shaq being married. The alleged affair was plastered everywhere imaginable. Laura denied that the affair happened and Shaunie filed for divorce from Shaq shortly after she heard the reports. As for her time on the reality TV show scene, from the very start, Laura Govan found herself in a lunch brawl on Basketball Wives LA with Malaysia Pargo, another retuning cast member in addition to having her share of issues with Jackie Christie and Draya as well. The first season of BBWLA had its spurts of drama in it, keeping the attention of viewers waiting to see who was going to get into it next. However, the spin-off show hasn’t managed to entertain reality TV show heads nearly as much as the original Basketball Wives Miami show has. The severe drop in ratings for this season have looked to made Shaunie consider making some changes to the show, a possible move that she hinted at via Twitter. Laura Govan caught wind of Shaunie’s makeover comment about Basketball Wives LA and addressed it, sharing her thoughts about it with Sister 2 Sister, saying that she does somewhat see where Shaunie is coming from:

“I might say that I would agree with her. A makeover is needed, but I don’t know to what extent,”

As Laura sides with Shaunie on the show’s need for alterations, she doesn’t quite understand why Shaunie isn’t supportive of something that her name is associated with:

“If you gonna have your name stamped on something, you should definitely support it,”

Laura also made it clear that Shaunie may be the brains behind Basketball Wives Miami but the real credit for BBWLA should go to her and her sister Gloria Govan:

“Shaunie has nothing to do with ‘BBW: L.A.,”

And when it comes to being on Basketball Wives, Laura says that she has “paid her dues” to do so, being in an off and on relationship with NBA baller Gilbert Arenas and everyone else should have to do the same:

“If it’s ‘Basketball Wives,’ then let’s hold this title. At least have some basketball affiliation,” she said. “At least keep it in the group, just have an affiliation. I’ve been with my guy 12 years, regardless of marriage or not. I’ve paid my dues. Give me some people who have paid their dues.”

Though she didn’t go into detail about which cast members she was referring to, Laura says that Basketball Wives should be reserved for those who have actually dated or been married to basketball players and that the groupies of the bunch should have a show all to themselves:

“At the end of the day, the title is called ‘Basketball Wives,’ at least play basketball. Let’s not just have the groupies. Get that for another show. That could be the jump-off show,”

What do you think of Laura’s comments?

  1. I feel like Laura is full of sh-t and the only reason why she is talking all of this is because she just got married. Your a– was a jumpoff before. Yes, the show SHOULD be just for wives. Dating someone does not count, no matter how many “dues” you have paid. Both LA and Miami are nothing but trash. Shaunie tries to act all high and mighty, but she’s just as messy as the rest of them. But what I really want to know if Gloria slept with Laura’s man. They keep fast forwarding through that. I think that happened!
