Wyclef Jean has been the target of criticism lately due to his recent book release “Purpose: An Immigrant’s Story.” The Trio of hosts for 105.1 FM’s The Breakfast Club were one of many to criticize the way Wyclef decided to tell his side of the story of the falling out between him and former Fugees member Lauryn Hill, which her ex-boyfriend Rohan Marley criticized.
In the book, Wyclef writes:
“In that moment something died between us. I was married and Lauryn and I were having an affair, but she led me to believe that the baby was mine, and I couldn’t forgive that.” He continues by adding, “She could not longer be my muse. Our love spell was broken.”
Wyclef decided to accept an invite to be interviewed by The Breakfast Club and defend why he wrote about the situation with Lauryn Hill and explained what happened when his wife found out about the story in the book. He first took time to apologize to his wife about the way she found out during the interview.
“The first part of this story that I like to say is I apologize to my wife. Like I always say this first before I get into this because understand in the process of writin’ this autobiography of myself, there was stuff that she was probably supposed to see before the book came out.”
“So… When she read the book, she wrote a chapter that I told her give to me to post [in the book]. I think it’s called either ‘a Strong Woman’ or ‘a Wife Behind a Cheating Husband.’
When Wyclef was being pressed about the the timing of the book’s release, Wyclef quickly placed blame on his publisher for the timing.
There was a time I had a situation with book publishers already ’cause I have seven books that I am writin’. This is the first of seven. I didn’t put the time when the book was coming out. I had a deal with the publishers and they put the time of when the book is coming out.”
Check out the full interview below. Wyclef speaks to the criticism of the posing on his motorcycle in a speedo and speaks about who he is collaborating with in the future and opening a new NYC restaurant.
How did the world know about Wyclef’s affair and his wife didn’t? Was she living under a rock?
Douche bag
I think his wife knew and has known for years. Women can feel when a man’s not being faithful. I think she just wanted him to think she didn’t know.
I agree. I don’t believe her either.
Yeah she knew but decided to turn a blind eye.
