Is There Beef Between Outkast’s Big Boi & Andre 3000?

By: Taren Vaughan

Is a Big Boi and Andre 3000 beef the real reason why we haven’t heard new music from Outkast? Outkast is without a doubt one of the greatest rap groups of all time. The southern Hip-Hop duo broke out in the early 90’s and continued to drop classic tracks that still to this day continue to get play on the radio. And when it came to the songs that they made, it was almost certain that these brothers spit some real knowledge in their rhymes, leaving listeners with a message to think about. Not to mention that they made some unique wardrobe changes over their career too, setting them apart even further from the rest who were unwilling to branch too far out from the norms of Hip-Hop. As Outkast held it down as a unit for many years in the music industry, both Big Boi and Andre 3000 went on to take on solo projects, eventually leading people to think that the days of Outkast were done for good. Rumors of the two being locked into a beef started to go around too. Big Boi previously addressed the rumors about there being a Big Boi and Andre 3000 beef, denying that there were any problems between him and Dre.

So if there is no beef, why haven’t there been any Big Boi Andre 3000 collaborations going on?

According to Big Boi, he was ready to put down some tracks with Andre 3000. But Dre is “too busy” to get into the studio with him, saying that his focus is on other things Big Boi reveals:

“No, that’s all cleared up now. He could’ve been on any song he wanted to. I gave the motherf*cker about five songs, but I guess he was just too busy,” Big Boi said when asked about Laface Records not authorizing an Andre 3000 collaboration. “He said he had to do some Gillette sh*t [room erupts in laughter]. No for real. He said he had some contractual obligations.” (Village Voice)

There may not be a beef going on between Big Boi and Andre 3000. But it’s obvious that they are not on the same page, as Andre is dedicating his time elsewhere.

However, some are suggesting Andre 3000’s interest in another Outkast album just isn’t there.

  1. Sigh. I wish these two would figure out whatever they need to figure out so we can have another album. I really hate that Andre 3000 is being such a diva about this.

  2. I’ve just about given up on these two. I just don’t think 3 Stacks wants to do another Outkast album. He’s pretty much hinted at that in interviews. It’s a shame because music needs them. But oh well.

  3. One of the best rap groups of all time…damn shame they can’t come together and make another album. Andre 3000 is being real selfish about this too.

  4. Add me the growing list of people who have given up hope. You might catch both on someone else’s track every now and then but another Outkast album ain’t happening.

  5. Andre 3000 ruined the group. Yeah he’s the better rapper, but he acts like a queen. He’s hard to work with and he’s very bossy over Big Boi. I read somewhere that he basically hates on Big Boi rapping on other people’s tracks, he usually tells him not to but then turns around and does it himself. I forgot who it was, but someone asked specifically for Big Boi but Andre 3000 called them up and told him only he (Andre 3000) could do the song. Just trifling.

    1. I read that too, hell didn’t Big Boi even say it himself?! I think there is beef and I think Big Boi is trying real hard not to say how he REALLY feels about everything. I live for the day he spills the tea.

    2. I’m trying to understand why Big Boi takes that treatment from Dre. WTF is he allowing these things to happen?! I’ll be damned if someone told me I couldn’t rap on other people’s songs.

  6. There is beef. It stems from Dre’s evolution as an artist and his inability for him to think as a group. Honestly, he feels doing Outkast is jut outdated for him being almost 40.

  7. Umm y’all, that was straight up SHADE. There is definitely some beef going on. And honestly, I don’t blame Big Boi for feeling slighted.

  8. F-ck Dre. He ruined one of the best rap groups of the South. All because he plucked Erykah Badu and started to think he was too deep to be in Outkast anymore. And yeah, there’s beef. Big Boi just won’t admit to it because he doesn’t want to put the last coffin in the group yet.

  9. Oh well. Looks like Outkast is donezo. Andre 3000 is NOT that damn busy that he can’t take his little skinny a– to the studio.

  10. Call me naive, but I think they’ll eventually make another album. Especially since those movie roles aren’t exactly lining up for Dre anymore. He’ll be back.

  11. I doubt Big Boi will ever open his mouth and spill any tea… Those two are cut from a different cloth, and despite the fact that there just might be beef? I doubt they would hash it out publicly;. I appreciate that about them. I personally don’t want to know. If Andre is in a different place and doesn’t want to do it, let that man be.
