Drake has continued to celebrate his success as the protégé of Rapper Lil’ Wayne. The Young Money rapper has delivered hit records, toured across the country and even gone back to get his high school diploma. Yet with all the fame and fortune and the tight bond that he has with YMCMB, Drake has always kept close to his biological family. Sadly for Drake though, they suffered a great loss this Thanksgiving as the rapper’s grandmother Evelyn Sher passed away on this past Thursday. Drake, like most grandchildren do, had a close relationship with his grandmother. And he was not opposed to spitting heartfelt verses about her in his songs either, one of them being an unreleased track of his titled song The Winner. And judging from the lyrics, he was preparing himself for her passing:
“Yeah, and in the name of Evelyn Sher. I’ll forever forgive anybody that never was there. For me, no other woman could ever compare. My angel I hope heaven’s prepared for whenever you there.”
Drake sent out a tweet about his grandmother’s death from his account:
Thoughts and prayers go out to Drake and his family as they mourn the loss of their loved one.
Sad. Condolences. It’s hard to lose a grandparent.
Aww. 🙁
That picture is so touching.
Aww man. So sad. Prayers for the family.
