Nicci Gilbert isn’t the most liked star on TV One’s hit reality show R&B Divas, in fact, it seems as if she’s the least liked by fans of the show. One of the many complaints of Gilbert is that she is very bossy to the rest of the cast and she comes off somewhat rude when she interacts with the rest of the divas. Although Nicci blames this on shady editing, one of the producers on the show claims Nicci is exactly who she is portrayed as on the show. Although Nicci isn’t well liked by fans, earlier this year, rumors suggested Nicci was fired because she was so hard to work with behind the scenes. TV One eventually released a statement denying that Nicci had been fired and they also confirmed that she is actually one of the Executive Producers of the show.
Unfortunately, the rumors have popped back up again and made their second rounds on the gossip blogs. The YBF reported recently that a source says Nicci Gilbert has been fired and the network is keeping it under wraps until filming for the second season of the show begins. We told you all that we found that a little hard to believe since the show still has not been confirmed for a second season by the network. And it’s a little tough to make casting decisions when producers don’t even know if the show will return.
Well it appears that our hunch was right.
In a recent interview with Sire Says, Nicci claims she has not been fired from R&B Divas and she also has no clue if the show will even return for a second season. She also revealed how she feels about being the least liked person on the show and that pesky mean girl image she can’t seem to shake.
When asked about how she feels about people’s negative perception of her as a result of her stint on the show, Nicci says:
“I understand it. At the end of the day, they don’t know that a big portion of what they’re seeing is one dimension of something. The other part of it as well is I am the Executive Producer of the show as well. So what they saw a lot of the times also was me being the Executive Producer. You kind of see it as me being a friend, a girl that’s hanging out with her girlfriends, whatever. But I’m also somebody who has to take in consideration that we have drinks at the table and if somebody says the wrong thing, this could turn into Basketball Wives and that’s not something we want.”
Nicci also talks about the future of the show and whether or not there will be a second season:
“We are looking for new seasons, well the whole world, it feels like, is looking for new seasons of R&B Divas. There hasn’t been an official announcement of R&B Divas at all, as it pertains to anybody or anyone’s involvement. I am very confident that the announcement, whatever it is going to be, will be coming very soon officially from the network. And I would just like to say until it comes from the network, I think it means absolutely nothing. It’s just a bunch of hearsay.”
And when it comes to the rumors that she was fired for being the least liked on the show, Nicci denies that she’s been fired and claims that it really doesn’t make sense to fire the most controversial people on reality shows:
“I’m going to say this: It seems like to me, all the ‘characters’ that viewers can’t relate to or don’t like tend to be the ones that keep people watching. So if I was a network, and I had a NeNe Leakes, Kenya Moore or whatever [I wouldn’t fire them]. So people need to think a little more, I’m not trying to be insulting, but as long as you’re invoking some kind of emotion from somebody, they’re not going to throw you out.
“I think it’s funny. I don’t take it seriously until TV One comes to me and says “Hey Nicci…” And the way it works in this industry is they wouldn’t come to me, they would go to my lawyer and my lawyer would be contacting me saying, ‘Hey look, you know…’ And that hasn’t happened.”
There you have it. Nicci also confirms that they would love to create spin offs to R&B divas in other cities, similar to the set up of Basketball Wives and the ‘Housewives’ franchise.
I’m glad she wasn’t fired. Yes, she gets on my nerves, but damn it if she doesn’t make the show. Her and KeKe. LOL.
But how do you fire the Executive Producer? I don’t think that’s going to happen. She makes the show interesting, so I hope they keep her on there.
Can’t stand her. She is too bossy and it’s annoying. But she does bring something to show.
I doubt she’s going anywhere as angry as she makes people, it’s a good thing for ratings. I hope the show gets a second season.
I knew she didn’t get fired. It doesn’t make sense to let her go, everyone else is boring except KeKe and sometime Syleena. No one wants to see women get a long all the time. That’s not even real life. lol
