Mike Tyson has always been very candid about his life. The former boxer isn’t shy to admit why his marriage with actress Robin Givens didn’t last and he can even admit that he clearly has some issues pertaining to his life decisions. But it’s his honesty that always makes him an intriguing person to interview, and despite retiring from boxing years ago, there’s still many things people don’t know about Mike Tyson. The boxing star recently made a return to the Hollywood Scene when he made a hilarious cameo appearance in the very funny big screen comedy The Hangover. As funny as his scenes were in the hit film, the boxer admits that he was high on cocaine the whole time.
In a recent interview with In Depth with Graham Bensinger, Mike says he was on drugs and heavily using cocaine during filming. He also mentioned that his speech was so slurred that he’s pretty sure his cast mates and film crew were aware of his drug habits. Tyson also admits that he only took up the movie role because he wanted a way to pay for his cocaine addiction. He says:
“They had to know I was messed up. I couldn’t talk. I had the cocaine talk. was a mess. I was overweight. I was a pig, high on cocaine.”
The movie was shot in 2010, but Mike says the cast of the film inspired him to get himself together. They even asked him back for the sequel despite his drug problems:
“So those guys are just beautiful people. They had my back, and I appreciate that and stuff, then they asked me to come back [in the Hangover 2.”
Mike says he won’t be in the third installment of the hilarious franchise, but he is getting set for a one-man tour throughout the US in 2013.
Oh wow Mike. Well I’m glad he;s doing much better. Is it me or does it seem like most celebs do drugs? What’s going on in Hollywood?
I think I would have been a bit terrified to film with him knowing he was high! He could have went off at any second and bit someone’s ear off! lol Love the Hangover Movie!
They claim that was a way to cope with all the stress and pressure of the industry. Well if that’s what happens I don’t want to be famous!!! I’ll Pass!
Wow. That is so sad. Girl I’m with you though. I don’t want to be under that kind of pressure that doing cocaine seems like a remedy. That’s crazy.
I had no idea. I know he struggled with drugs in the past but I didn’t know he had a relapse. Man, he’s hilarious and I wish him well on his tour.
