BET hasn’t had an easy journey to fixing its reputation that has been closely associated with tacky programming for African Americans. The network has been heavily criticized for showing ratchet videos that degrade black women, stereotypical movies and shows, and has also come under fire for removing quality programming like Teen Summit at a time when the black youth needed the outlet and dialogue the show was known for providing viewers for years. As a result, the network promised to revamp their programming, and offer a more balanced selection of shows for its viewers. It’s been a long road, but one of the most recent successes of the network was their decision to bring back popular sitcom The Game at the demand of fans of the show.

One of the newer shows the network is banking on is Kevin Hart’s Real Husbands of Hollywood. The show started off mainly as a spoof that aired during the 2011 awards show, but after people showed such a huge interest in it, the network moved forward in creating an actual show.

The premise of the show is that it was meant to be a parody of Real Housewives of Atlanta, and poke fun at the over top drama of today’s biggest reality shows.

The show premiered Tuesday, and according to reports, it put BET on top for Tuesday Cable Ratings.

Here’s the report from The Hollywood Reporter:

Real Husbands of Hollywood, Kevin Hart’s lampooning of the Real Housewives franchise, pulled 4.1 million viewers in its inaugural 10 p.m. outing. The series beat all cable and network broadcasts in the adults 18-49 demo with a 2.1 rating.
Its 11 p.m. encore also ranked in cable’s top 10 for the night, bringing in an additional 2.3 million viewers and a 1.1 rating among adults 18-49.

Second Generation Wayans, the night’s other debut, was in a close second in cable viewership and its demo score. The 10:30 p.m. episode pulled 3.5 million viewers and a 1.7 rating with 18-49-ers. Its 11:30 p.m. encore raked in an additional 1.4 million and a 0.6 adults rating.

Real Husbands now stands as the No. 1 new cable sitcom of the season in viewers and the demo. In adults 18-34, it’s the third best launch of all time — behind BET’s launch of The Game and the premiere of Let’s Stay Together.

Congrats to Kevin Hart.

  1. I honestly didn’t think it was funny but because it’s Kevin Hart, I know it has the potential to get funny. So I’ll tune in next week.

  2. The only funny parts were all of the scenes with Nick Cannon and when Kevin did the crip walk. That’s it. But I will keep watching.

  3. Aww I’m happy for Kevin! I liked it and I will keep watching! We need to support our positive and non ratchet black shows!

  4. I never thought Kevin Hart was funny and i think he’s overrated. The show sucked terribly. I won’t be watching next week. lol

  5. I like it. And of course I loved every scene with Nelly in it! And I laughed a lot when Kevin did his “crip” walk on Robin Thick! I’ll keep watching.
