Kerry Washington Says She Would’ve Passed on Scandal if President Was Black

There’s no doubt that Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice creator Shonda Rhimes has another hit television show on her hands. Scandal, a newer drama on ABC, is vastly becoming one of the top shows on the network. And the show has quickly proven why Kerry Washington is an amazing actress who really should have gotten her props years ago. It’s truly a great time for black actors, as many are finally getting more diverse roles in television. However, Kerry Washington admits that there was one thing that would have made her walk away from the opportunity to be the star on the hit television show. And according to Kerry, the deal breaker for her would have been if Fitz was a black man.

Kerry tells Ebony Magazine:

“I was a little concerned because [the character has] a scandalous relationship with the [occupant of the] White House.

“I thought, ‘If the president on the show is Black, I will not do the show.’ Because to me, it was too important a moment. I didn’t want to do anything that compromised my relationship with the [president] or that made it seem like I had an insider view on the Obama presidency.”

Kerry has been a target of some very salacious rumors that suggest she has a crush on President Obama, and Michelle Obama has been rumored to be pulling all the stops to keep Kerry away from the president. Kerry has always slammed the rumors and says they don’t contain any truth, and we have to doubt them too considering that the original source is the National Enquirer.
