Beyonce has obviously achieved a high level of superstardom that most didn’t expect her to, especially when considering her humble beginnings in Destiny’s Child early days. Since going solo and becoming Sasha Fierce, Beyonce has become one of the biggest pop stars of our generation. Beyonce’s upcoming world tour “The Mrs. Carter Show” is selling out everywhere in a matter of minutes, forcing the singer to add more shows to her line up, so it makes sense that she was able to land her spot as the headline act for the Super Bowl halftime show. But with this kind of fame comes a lot of controversy. And just fresh from the lip sync scandal and surrogate rumors, it now appears that there probably isn’t any controversy that Beyonce can’t handle at this point.
So we’re sure she’s probably not in the least bit shocked that her new Pepsi promo photos are causing a little bit of a stir.
Here’s the new Pepsi promo:
After the singer posted the photos to her Instagram account, people began to complain that the singer’s complexion looked like that of a white woman’s.
Comments from critics suggested that Beyonce was being a tool and allowing the beverage brand to make her appeal more to whites, and shaming her for not insisting that they use her “real” complexion.
Here’s a few of the comments from her critics and disappointed fans:
“Blonde hair, ridiculously lightened up pic, you’re not Marilyn Monroe @baddie you’re black, be proud of it!”
“I knew they were tryna [trying to] market u as a white b*tch…so sad how much does your soul cost?”
“Why they making this women [woman] look almost white??? Such a shame smh”
This isn’t the first time Beyonce has been in the middle of a “complexion” controversy. A few years ago the singer and cosmetic company L’Oreal were slammed for releasing photos of Beyonce that many people believed to be digitally enhanced and lightened to appear to a majority Caucasian audience.
However, some of Beyonce’s fans made it clear that they feel the controversy over the Pepsi photos is uncalled for and there’s no way the soda giant would need to lighten her photos, especially since Beyonce is naturally a light-skinned woman.
Why can’t we just let her live.
But she’s LIGHT SKIN. People will get upset about anything she does.
Beyonce doesn’t have any control over how Pepsi chooses to edit her pictures. She takes the pics, and they change them how they want to. It’s done to every famous person.
Thank you. It’s only an issue now because it’s Bey.
She has more say then we are thinking right now.
Umm lighter complexioned AA women will look ” whiter” at certain moments but it does not take away from her blackness.
People are so damn stupid.
People can’t be serious.
I’m lightskin and I can tell you I get lighter in the winter time. And so does Bey. She was very light in her Oprah interview. I don’t think she bleached her skin or that she’s asking people to lighten her complexion. People are reaching here.
Exactly.
She does look like a white woman in these pics tho…
She looks like a light skinned black woman with blonde hair. #shrugs
Personally I like her with her natural hair color but I see nothing wrong here. If the sponsor was Lady Gaga, they would have used a whiter paint
Sigh…here we go.
Oh whatever. I just can’t with some people.
Dam if u do…..Dam if u don’t……u can clearly c it’s Bey….she’s paid…..so what….MOVE ON
It is a take on an Andy Warhol Pop Portrait. EVERYONE in those types of painting look lighter. FYI I’m a black and light skinned and people just need to stop making race issues where there are none. Picking a fight for no darn reason.
I’m confused. Bey is a light skinned black woman that 9 times out of 10 is always wearing blonde hair, so what’s the problem? Looks just like her to me!
When will they stop making skin color an issue in the black community? It looks just like B. I saw this pic today and I didn’t even give it a second thought. Let’s move on to something that really matters…..
