Michelle Obama made history a little over four years ago becoming the first African American First Lady of the United States, one of the most stylish and personable ones the country has ever had. And now that her husband President Barack Obama has been re-elected for another term as President of the United States of America, Mrs. Obama has continued to do what she does best and involve herself in multiple other areas other than the usual politics. When she is not giving moving speeches across the country or spending quality time with her girls Malia and Sasha, she is making guest appearances on television shows and at major events. Most recently, Michelle Obama surprised everyone at this year’s Academy Awards ceremony by presenting the award for ‘Best Picture’ via satellite. Many people were thrilled to see the FLOTUS appear on the big screen presenting the award from afar yet for all those who were happy to see her make the appearance, there were those who had an issue with her doing that and became very vocal, some saying that that was a selfish move on Mrs. Obama’s behalf for crashing the event, although she was actually asked by the Oscars to present the award. Having dealt with criticism ever since she stepped foot on White House soil, Michelle Obama tells The Associated Press that all of the backlash that she is receiving is “absolutely not surprising” at all to her. And she says that if her new cut and the clothes that she wears can strike up heavy conversation, then she already knew that her appearance on the Oscars was going to do the same, attributing a lot of that to the popularity of social media.
“Shoot, my bangs set off a national conversation. My shoes can set off a national conversation. That’s just sort of where we are. We’ve got a lot of talking going on.”
Michelle Obama adds that the things that would normally be discussed in the comfort of one’s home are now being talked about for any and everyone to hear which leads to the whole nation serving up their opinion on things:
“It’s like everybody’s kitchen-table conversation is now accessible to everybody else so there’s a national conversation about anything.”
Michelle Obama’s presentation of an award was not the only thing that struck up controversy surrounding the Oscars as The Onion sparked outrage after calling Actress Quvenzhané Wallis a vulgar name and later apologized to the young actress for it.
She’s right. They have something to say about EVERYTHING she does. I doubt it would be this way if she was a white woman. IJS.
You’re so right. If she was white none of this would happen.I’ve notice in white magazines (like ok mag, people mag,etc and online gossip sites (like E!online) if there is a picture or an article about a black celeb (like Beyonce,Halle Berry,Jennifer Hudson,Etc), people in their comment section will tear them apart. But if it is a white celeb, even if it is a trashy, drug, alchoolic, anoretic one, they’ll praise them. And when he call on that, they say:Oh!you’re pulling the race card again, slavery ended like 150 yrs ago, get over it”……We still are in a white world….It is a pity
Yeah those comment sections are full of racism. That’s why I don’t visit the white sites. Too much negativity and hatred for black people.
This.
People are so damn hateful. I’m glad she has thick skin now.
Love her but I have to admit, I didn’t understand why she made an appearance at the Oscars. It was kind of unnecessary. IJS.
Luv u MRS.OBAMA…..U HAVE MORE LOVING U….SO LET THE HATERS…HATE…
She can’t please everyone. So who cares? I love her though.
Racist white folks stay pressed. Lol love it!
Cosign!
@Ratchet Queen, you’re right about white magazines, but this site has alot of hateful and negative things to say about blacks as well. White people do it enough towards us, why do it to our own cause we don’t agree with what they say, wear, or the choices they make in “their ” life. Ijs ..
