Actor Terrence Howard’s career was on fire after he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in Hustle & Flow. And although things seemed to look up post the film and he did land a major role in the Iron Man film, his career seemed to lose steam right after. And that’s most likely a result of the controversy surrounding his salary renegotiation to star in the sequel to the comic book based film series, as it was reported that he was requesting more money than the star of the film, Robert Downey Jr. It’s speculated that Howard wanted $6 million to play the role, and the film execs wanted to actually pay him less than they did for the first film. That was a blow to Howard considering that he was the highest paid actor in the first installment of the franchise. Although he pretended as if the spilt from the series was a cordial one, he is now saying in a recent interview with Hollywood.com while discussing the ordeal that it ruined his career:

“Worst thing I witnessed was ‘Iron Man’ killing my career.”

He explained further in an interview with Desde Hollywood. The actor says:

“I love the fact that ‘Iron Man’ put me on a world stage and tested my strength of character. I chose not to fight back, not to deal with the allegations, but to continue forward and do what I had to do. I had to start all over: went from making $6 million a movie, back to $60 thousand a movie. But as long as you don’t give up you are able … I’ll make $20 million soon. Because I have learned the lessons of yesterday.”

Despite things slowing down after Iron Man, Terrence Howard is still working and has a new film entitled Dead Man Down coming out on March 8.

  1. Aww man that sucks. Sometimes these black actors get a little success and forget they’re black. I’m sure he knows how to play the game now.

  2. Welcome to Hollywood Terrence. You were making more money than the white, star actor of the franchise. You had to know that wasn’t going to last long. LOL.

  3. I know that had to be humbling. At least he’s still making movies. Even though that’s a HUGE cut in pay.

  4. I love Terrence but he does the most sometimes. He got handled because he came off arrogant to people who didn’t feel he was worth what he was asking for. Had he listened, he probably could have gotten close to what he wanted. His pride wouldn’t let him budge. He has some fault in that.

  5. I’m sorry but anytime I hear of actors getting any type of money like that, it’s hard for me to feel sorry for any of them. As far as the lesson learned, we all learn lessons in our jobs. They are no different than anyone else.

  6. I wonder if he’s making thing worse by saying anything about it now…those folks in Hollywood are spiteful.

  7. Terrence can be such a little drama queen. He should have just negotiated with the studio. They would have given him more than $60,000. He has to blame his big mouth for that one.

  8. He’s still running that mouth like he hasn’t learned. I don’t know why he thought he should have stayed the highest paid actor in a film that Robert Downey Jr. was starring in. Come on dude.

  9. $6 million to $60,000?! Wow, that’s a huge cut. Yeah, he definitely pissed someone off and got blacklisted.

    1. Right and he just made it worse by talking about it now. A new Iron Man movie comes out in May. Not smart. lol

  10. Oh Terrence please. Your inflated sense of self killed your career…ie. this damn interview. Have a whole stadium of seats.

    1. He’s actually a good actor IMHO. But yes, I agree he’s a diva. And that’s what killed his career.

  11. Well if Iron Man didn’t kill his career, this interview sure will. Man, we all have to master the art of knowing when to keep some things to ourselves. Smh.

  12. I like Terrence. They could have paid him $6 million BUT he should have played it smart and just taken the cut. Then he would have kept getting a lot or roles and he could have worked it to the point that he was getting more money per film. That’s what all the big names had to do. Now Will and Denzel get like $20 mil a film. You have to play the game first to win later.
