Rick Ross has been pretty silent since his lyrics on Rocko’s song “U.O.E.N.O (You ain’t even know it)” have caused quite the controversy, as many speculate the lyrics were in reference to date raping a woman. In case you missed it, here’s the lyrics that have caused the backlash for the Maybach Music rapper:

“Put molly all in her champagne, she ain’t even know it / I took her home and I enjoyed that, she ain’t even know it”

The backlash for the lyrics has gone viral, and as a result, an online petition urging the rapper to apologize has began circulating the web, and it’s caused supporters of Rick Ross to question if they should continue to support his music. The petition reads:

Publicly apologize for glorifying ‘date rape’. It is scary and offensive that you can normalize this in a song and you’re a much better artist than that. We respect your freedom of expression, but at the same time we are exercising our freedom of speech in expressing our disappointment at your choice of lyrics.

You are influential. People will listen to your songs and try to live how you live. Yes, even adults are impressionable. Please denounce this blatant promotion of drugging and rape. It has happened too often and to too many people, even people we know to be seen as acceptable.

Rick Ross has finally decided to address the controversial lyrics, and in a recent interview with Q93.3, he says he was misunderstood:

“Woman is the most precious gift known to man. It was a misunderstanding of a lyric, a misinterpretation. The term rape wasn’t used. You know I would never use the term rape in my records. And as far as my camp, Hip Hop don’t condone that, the streets don’t condone that. Nobody condones that. So I just wanted to reach out to all the queens that’s on my timeline [Twitter] and all the sexy ladies, the beautiful ladies that have been reaching out to me with the misunderstanding…we don’t condone rape and I’m not with that.”

The rapper never issued an apology, but says he felt it was his responsibility to clarify the he doesn’t condone the raping of women.

  1. I love how he doesn’t apologize, but felt the need to give a shot out to all the sexy ladies that follow him on Twitter. Sexist much?

  2. What kind of explanation was that?! Smh. I guess he figures he doesn’t have to say much because people will forgot and still support his music anyway.

  3. There’s real things going in the world and people are worried about a lyric? He don’t owe anyone an apology. How you interpret music is based on you. People worry about everything else but they themselves. Get a life.
