Beyonce is without a doubt one today’s biggest stars in music, but she’s also not stranger to controversy. After releasing a song in which she tells all her haters to “Bow Down,” the singer drew a lot of criticism. Many people were upset that Beyonce referred to women as b*tches, while others felt she was being a hypocrite for wanting uplift women in one song and then call women b*tches in the next. However, Beyonce still has supporters who have embraced the song and don’t get the backlash, and Beyonce doesn’t seem to be fazed one bit that she ruffled some feathers with the track. Interestingly enough, the singer talks feminism in her recent interview with British Vogue and she covers the May issue.

Beyonce is now embracing her role as Mrs. Carter and says that she now feels bolder than ever:

“I feel like Mrs Carter is who I am, but more bold and more fearless than I’ve ever been.

“It comes from knowing my purpose and really meeting myself once I saw my child. I was like, okay, this is what you were born to do.

“The purpose of my body became completely different. The way I view it and everything. There’s a sensuality and an audacity that I’m okay with sharing. And I’m not uncomfortable about it. I’m not shy about it. And I feel like it’s important for women not to lose that sense of sensuality.”

But when it comes to labels, Beyonce says women shouldn’t have to decide what kind of woman they are:

“Why do you have to choose what type of woman you are? Why do you have to label yourself anything? I’m just a woman and I love being a woman. If you’re attractive then you can’t be sexy, and you can’t be intelligent? What is all of that? I guess I am a modern-day feminist.”

And when it comes to Blue Ivy’s future, Beyonce confirms that she’ll be supportive no matter what she decides to do as a career:

“I hope she figures it out… whatever makes her happy, I’m there.

“I definitely want my daughter to have goals and drive and passion – it has to be balance.”

  1. I love that Bey is trying to evolve as an artist and hang up the whole “safe,” “robot” image. I don’t like her new song (I just think it’s lame), but I do appreciate that she’s now wanting to do what the hell she wants. Kudos to her.

  2. She looks fab! I don’t care what anyone says, I heart Bey! You can’t expect an artist to stay the same when people who aren’t even famous don’t stay the same. If you don’t like the song, fine. But people are being too deep and phony making it out to be a “social issue.” LOL.

  3. Pretty. It’s obvious Beyonce really doesn’t care anymore. And I say GOOD FOR HER. People will criticize you no matter what you do. So do what you want and make the music that is true to you.

  4. “Why do you have to choose what type of woman you are? Why do you have to label yourself anything?” – I was just talking about this the other day. I don’t understand why women in the music industry have to be a “certain way.” And when they try to step outside of the box, it’s the women who are the most offended. I don’t get it…

  5. Love her. I’m glad she’s feeling more bold. She has a right to step outside the box as an artist. IJS.

  6. She needs to call her daddy and get her career back on track. Jay-Z is going to destroy her legacy. Smh.

  7. Loved the interview. People complained she didn’t open up enough for years and now they are complaining that she’s too open. LOL. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

  8. People always going to find something to criticize her no matter what she does…In the Bow Down track she not telling other women to bow down to her, but to respect her, cuz she one of the most hard working artist, amanzing singer and dancer, extraordinaire performancer. She is a nice, good person, but even the nicest person after taking so much punches, they will fight back…….
