When the news broke that Beyonce and Andre 3000 would be teaming up for the remake of Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black” for upcoming film The Great Gatsby’s soundtrack that Bey’s hubby Jay-Z is behind, there was no doubt in people’s minds that a certified hit was on its way after what the two talents did on Beyonce’s ‘Party’ song that Andre was featured on. Beyonce already has her fans riled up as she is getting ready to drop another studio album and fans of group Outkast who are longing for Andre and Big Boi to get back together in the studio, were thrilled at the chance to hear 3 Stacks’ flow on a new track. As many people were excited to hear how Beyonce and Andre 3000 were going to add their own flavor to the song, Amy Winehouse’s father Mitch Winehouse wasn’t too thrilled about Beyonce doing the remake of his late daughter’s song.
He says:
“I don’t think she brings anything to it. I wasn’t asked for my permission if they could record it. They have got to pay for the privilege, which is what they are doing. I can’t tell you how much it is but it’s a lot of money.”
After getting an angry earful from the BeyHive, Mitch backtracked on his initial comments and claimed that he loves the idea of Beyonce covering the song. Well the time to hear the track has come as Mark Ronson, who co-wrote the original version for Amy, debuted the full song on his East Village Radio show this past Friday. And Mark says that he was most honored to be apart of the cover and feels that Amy would be proud of it:
“I’m flattered and honored. I know Amy would be too.”
Take a listen to Beyonce and Andre 3000’s cover of ‘Back to Black’ below and tell us what you think:
Love it! 3 Stacks & Bey…can’t get any better than that.
Yes!
Slayed.
Nice!
I really like this! It fits the movie (from what I’ve seen on the previews) well too.
Sounds good. Love me some 3 Stacks.
Ok Bey!
I’m a fan.
Sounds very sexy. Not better than the original but very good.
I like!
Fire.
It’s dope. I expected it to be though. Bey works great with Andre 3000.
TRASH! smh I know it’s a cover but 3000 ruined this song for me. I LOVE the original so why butcher an already great song?
