The Queen Bee has been gone too long from the rap game and in an era that pretty much has found a way to rid the industry of most female rappers, Lil Kim’s fans are missing her now more than ever. In the meantime, Young Money’s Nicki Minaj has managed to create an empire in the few years she’s been in the industry, and it doesn’t help things that her relationship with Lil Kim is a sour one. In fact, Kim and her loyal fans still feel Nicki stole Kim’s image to make it to the top and the Head Barbie hasn’t managed to make things better between them since she has taken shots at Kim in her music. Regardless, Kim still feels Nicki owes her for her success, but she’s not walking away from the music industry despite the disappearance of many popular female rappers. And although Nicki is still the front-runner and Eve is working on her comeback, many feel the industry needs Kim now more than ever.

In fact, Lil Kim confirmed to Wetpaint Entertainment that her new album is set to drop soon and notable producer Bangladesh is producing the first single. She says:

“Yes, he’s executive-producing it. And we do have other producers working on the album, as well; but the first single that’s coming out in late June/first week of July is produced by Bangladesh, for sure.”

While Kim didn’t want to reveal the album name just yet, she did talk a little about the current state of the female rap game or lack thereof:

“I think it’s important because we [female rappers] were — and are — a major part of hip-hop. When we were coming up in the game, the music we made was such a major change; it was important to music at the time. [Now] the synergy is lined up! The game has been so male-dominated for so long. With all the women coming back now, this is a way where we get kind of even.”

  1. She’s been talking about dropping a new album for like 5 years! I hope she does it for real this time.

  2. I’m ready. It’s time for more female rappers to come back to the scene like it used to be back in the day. Having one woman dominate it for these last few years has gotten boring.

  3. She’s going to flop. Who wants to hear her rap about her vagina and giving blow jobs in 2013? That kind of rap has gotten stale.

    1. Agreed. I really don’t want to hear about another woman’s sexual escapades. And well that’s pretty much ALL of her material.

  4. As long as she slays, I’m good. She needs to remind people that she’s the original and Nicki is the copy.

  5. She’s like a decade too late. I stopped caring once I realized she had morphed into a full blown Asian woman.

  6. As crazy as it sounds, I’d rather hear Nicki now. Kim has turned me off with all the plastic surgery and that unnecessary shade she keeps throwing Faith over a man who has been dead for years.

  7. I think it’s a little too late. Nicki is running it now and well, people rather see fresh faces if it’s not Nicki.

  8. No one is checking for Big’s old side piece. She got crappy when he died because he isn’t able to write her lyrics anymore.

  9. No ma’am. You lost a lot of us with all that plastic surgery and the displays of delusion on those tweets…Photoshop my a-s.

  10. Hopefully Kim will come back with fresh material. Otherwise, she’s gonna flop. I would love for MC Lyte and Queen Latifah to make a come back too! And Eve and Foxy Brown. Then the women of Hip Hop would really start a movement!

  11. Nicki is a carbon-copy and a fake, but that doesn’t mean we need to see Kim back in the game. None of today’s top rappers, save for Eminem, Snoop, Drake, Nas, Li’l Wayne, Common and a few others, could even hang with the biggest rap stars of the 1980’s and 1990’s.

Game would have gotten crushed by Pac and Biggie, as well as Dre, LL, Big Daddy Kane, Rakim and a bunch if others.

The same goes for the females; Nicki might be on top today, but she’s the LeBron/Mike Tyson of the female rap game – meaning all the real competition was over-the-hill or out of the game before she came in. She hasn’t had to beat anybody good for the title. Mike Tyson came to the game AFTER Ali, Ken Norton, George Foreman, Larry Holmes, and Joe Frazier had retired, and when he finally faced fighters who weren’t afraid of him (Evander Holyfield and Buster Douglas) he got his *ss kicked!

Just like LeBron didnt really have to face Kobe, Shaq, D-Wade, Tim Duncan or KG much in his prime – and never faced Jordan, Magic or Bird – Nicki Menaj has never faced QL, MC Lyte, Foxy Brown, or Li’l Kim. As lyricists, all four would have crushed her in their primes, though only Foxy and Kim would have given her competition on the sex symbol front. Nicki won her title by default! I don’t call that a champion; I call that a seat-warmer.

She’s going to have to face some real competition eventually, and when she does she will be line a deer in headlights.
