From landing a role in the hit film ‘Django Unchained‘ to taking on the role as Olivia Pope in ABC’s hit show Scandal, things have been going great for Actress Kerry Washington. And she takes none of the success that she has had thus far with her acting career lightly as the talented actress revealed in a recent interview that she did with Parade that she had no idea that her involvement with the show Scandal would be a history making moment for her. And though she nailed her role in ‘Django Unchained’ as well, Kerry acknowledged the fact that that was a hard thing for her to push through during the making of the movie, a movie that she starred in with Jamie Foxx, whom she has been rumored to be romantically involved with. Though Kerry’s romantic interest in Jamie Foxx stems no further than the movie screen, the praise that Kerry gets has gone beyond her skills as an actress as she made PEOPLE’s ‘World’s Most Beautiful’ list. Covering the June 2013 issue of Elle Magazine, Kerry revealed in her interview with the publication that she could not be happier with how things are going with her career:
“I’m the luckiest broad in Hollywood now. To be the lead actor on Scandal and to be in the highest-earning Tarantino movie- I don’t get to ask for more.”
Although she feels she’s the luckiest woman in the world to be where she is right now in her career, Kerry also admitted that she didn’t always think she’d become an actress:
“I was not that girl. I was a kooky theater kid, silly and goofy and academic.”
And while many would think celebrities dread getting red-carpet ready because of the time it takes to do so, Kerry says she rather enjoys it:
“I found out I enjoy the process. All these people show up at my house, they all have kits, someone has dresses. And it’s like, Let’s have fun. It’s not all about me. We’re able to create stories on the red carpet.”
And though she is pinned as one of the best African American actresses at the moment, Kerry says acting was not what she imagined herself doing:
“I imagined I’d be a clinical psychologist, with a focus on how performance shapes identity. I’d figure out ways to use role-playing in the healing of people.”
