Female rapper Eve is back on the Hip Hop scene, but unfortunately the first week sales of her new album “Lip Lock” indicate that things have clearly changed since her reign during the Ruff Ryders era. These days, Nicki Minaj is clearly the frontrunner in the female rap game, and she’s not showing any signs of slowing down anytime soon. However, many have slammed Nicki and accused the Young Money starlet of causing division among female rappers and playing into a competitive industry that would rather pit females against each other than let them all shine together. Even Nicki’s ongoing beef with Lil Kim shows a male dominated industry loves to see cattiness involving female emcees, and even Eve admits the catfights between female rappers that pretty much dominates today’s Hip Hop scene is annoying considering how much they all worked together in the 90s. She tells the Grio:
“I think it’s annoying. We were able to kind of get along. Now I don’t think anybody was really best friends. Some of us were really good friends. But it wasn’t about that. It was about making good music and I think that’s what’s lost right now. It’s so many dope females that actually are out but none of them have actually been on the same record together. Why not? Dudes do it all the time.”

I completely agree with Eve guys are always featured on other guys songs. Last collabo with more than one female rapper was Luda with my chick bad and before that was ladies night with Lil’ Kim. SMH Eve is on point once again.
She’s right. So what happened to the unity? Nicki Minaj happened. She came into the game taking shots at legends and making it a catty environment. Can’t stand her.
I really have to agree with you there. Nicki was like a poison to female rappers. She likes to pretend people are just jealous of her success, but she came into the game taking shots and being disrespectful. Sad.

Yeah it’s really messed up how catty the females are but I think Nicki Minaj has to do with that as well. She never wanted that sisterhood to continue because she felt threatened. She knows the greats (Eve included) can bury her/outdo her lyrically and she doesn’t want to be embarrassed.

You know what I have a love/hate relationship for Nicki she annoys me sometimes and then she is ok. But I will say I do kinda agree with the comments above but then I don’t because even before Nicki came it really wasn’t any unity because no one was really releasing music all the famous female rappers were like on hiatus. That’s why I said I haven’t really seen any unity since ladies night and that was in 97 way before Nicki.
It’s the truth boo. And think about it…it was smart on Nicki’s part to alienate all the other female rappers because it annihilated the competition. It is what it is.
I just don’t see it that way! Nicki paid homage to Kim before the beef. She didn’t start it. Kim did. I think people forget she came in showing love to Kim, Trina, and even Remy Ma. She’s not a beef starter. Never has been.

I don’t think there’s any unity because it’s really only one female rapper doing it big. The others are trying to get on. Nicki’s not going to help them get on. No female rapper helped Eve get on. You gotta do that yourself. In the 90s, there were several established female rappers, now it’s just one. These new girls have to fix that themselves, and then just maybe Nicki will collaborate with them. That’s how it usually works. People don’t want to make music with you until you’re a star. IMHO…

Eve is right and i agree! Female MC’s used to collab more often back then but now there’s only one female rapper who has the mega machine behind her. What I think is that Nicki Minaj is scared and feels very threatened that if she collabs with a vet or an upcoming Femcee that they will embarrass her lyrically and it’s very likely. Why didn’t Nicki get on My Chick Bad Remix…Why didn’t she have an extra verse is because she won’t get on a track with someone like Eve…She’ll do one with Trina because Trina isn’t really a threat anymore.
