Many will always remember the moment when two young boys decided to not only wear their clothes backwards, but they picked up the mic and made everyone want to “jump” with them as they embarked into the kind of stardom that would forever make them notable figures in the 90s Hip Hop movement. Just a couple of months after reuniting at the So So Def 20 year anniversary concert, it’s a sad day for fans of Kris Kross. According to multiple reports, Chris Kelly, who was affectionately known as Mac Daddy during the group’s reign, passed away Wednesday afternoon and at just the age of 34, the cause of death is unknown for the moment. It’s been reported that an autopsy will be performed on Thursday morning. Details are just breaking but here’s the report according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution:

Rapper Chris “Mac Daddy” Kelly died Wednesday afternoon after being found unresponsive in his home.

Kelly, 34, was part of the duo “Kris Kross,” known for their backwards clothes and 1992 debut album, which featured the hit “Jump.”

Kelly was found unresponsive and transported to Atlanta Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, a spokeswoman for the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Officer told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The cause of death was not immediately known. An autopsy is planned for Thursday morning.

When we think of Kris Kross, everyone on the staff of Urban Belle immediately thinks of our childhoods. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and close friends of Chris Kelly.
