Kevin Durant engaged? Kevin Durant doesn’t talk a whole lot about his personal life, but as we reported recently, he’s been in a serious relationship with WNBA player Monica Wright for a good minute. The couple’s low profile was pretty much busted after a series of cutesy photos were posted to Instagram, not to mention one of Durant’s homies slammed a groupie for trying to get the NBA star’s phone number and confirmed it wouldn’t happen because he already had a girlfriend anyway. Considering Kevin’s homies have been acting as gatekeepers to keep the groupies at bay out of respect for Kevin’s relationship, we can’t say we’re surprised Kevin proposed to Monica recently. Monica confirmed the Oklahoma City Thunder player proposed after her recent game on Sunday. USA Today reports:

Kevin Durant will be a married man soon. The Oklahoma City Thunder superstar recently proposed to his girlfriend, Monica Wright, a guard who plays for the WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx, and she accepted, she confirmed after the Lynx’ Sunday win over the Phoenix Mercury.

According to the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Durant and Wright have known each other since the 2006 McDonald’s High School All-American Game.

Wright, a 5-foot-11 guard, was the second overall pick in the 2010 WNBA draft. She is averaging 9.0 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists a game for the Lynx this season.

Durant and Wright have kept their relationship quiet. Even as recently as May, a FoxSportsNorth.com article about their friendship made no reference to the two being romantically involved.

Wright also has the same name as a character in the 2000 film Love & Basketball.

What’s cuter than a real life version of one of the dopest love movies of all time, “Love & Basketball?”

Congrats to the happy couple on their engagement.

  1. What’s with these celebs and athletes keeping their relationships private? The public is going to find out anyways so why hide it?

    1. Privacy. Freedom. Couples like these come out when the foundation of their relationship is laid, which in my opinion minimizes all the extra b.s. that comes along with being a high profile couple.

  2. Read her timeline. She seems like a good woman. Kevin Durant is smart for wifing up a woman with her own money, who loves the game, and has a good head on her shoulders. That’s why I love KD.
