The Lil Scrappy Trayvon Martin song is picking up steam on the internet. Despite how he may handle things on and off camera, Rapper Lil Scrappy made it known a while back that he does follow what is going on when it comes to history making moments in sports and the African-American community. The shooting death of Trayvon Martin caused outrage to surface in the Black community as the 17-year-old boy was killed by former neighborhood watch leader George Zimmerman on his way back home from the corner store in Sanford, Florida.

As his way to speak out about the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin, Lil Scrappy released a song entitled “Trayvon Martin,” in which he raps about Black people reaching for freedom now and seeking justice while dealing with crooked people in the judicial system.

In a statement to RumorFix, Lil Scrappy explains why he chose to do the song.

He says:

“I did this song because it doesn’t seem like anyone is stepping up to stand up against this racism. I have had a lot of time lately to read and think. If no one stands up we all are gonna fall.”

Scrappy has been receiving mixed reactions over his new song as some people are applauding him for sharing his thoughts about the controversy surrounding the case, and others feel the timing of the new song isn’t good considering the trial is still taking place. Then of course there are some who feel the song is nothing more than a publicity stunt.

  1. Honestly I don’t know how to feel about this I’m just praying for justice for Trayvon and his family.

  2. I don’t know Scrappy’s heart so I can’t say this is just for attention. I just know I’m tense as hell waiting on a verdict.

  3. I have butterflies about this case. Too many people keep saying George Zimmerman is going to get off. It’s a damn shame that some people honestly feel the only person who had a right to defend himself was the person with the gun.

  4. Something is really wrong with the laws in Florida. That’s the most disturbing thing for me. Do yall know how many people will be killed for the smallest of reasons because of their stupid self defense laws? They won’t be around to tell the side either like Trayvon’s not. That’s crazy.

    1. Girl cosign! And we all have to remember, no matter what the verdict, God is still God! George has to answer to God no matter what the jury says!

  5. I feel like its racist for them to prepare for us to riot. WTF? We’re not some group of animals unable to control ourselves. Florida is one racist a-s state.

  6. Yall we should just start one ling thread on all of this as we wait for the verdict…I’m bored at work anyway and a little mad too. So much racism is coming out about this case. Everyone is showing their true colors.

        1. Trayvon was a thug although he had no past criminal record and GZ is the only actual person who has been arrested before.

          1. Most of them really believe it too. And they say this is our fault for committing crimes. But the truth is they are the ones that threw us into the projects. The whole point of the projects was to create a deadly culture that would push blacks to kill ourselves. It worked. Too bad some of us praise the one lifestyle that is killing us.

        2. The whole Trayvon is a thug thing is very telling of how racist and prejudice people are. He has not ever committed a crime, but GZ has, yet Trayvon is the only one who got the thug label. Most of the country thinks lie Zimmerman and that’s scary as hell to me.

        3. The most racist thing I have heard is “There is a reason why blacks make up the majority of prisoners and why there has never been a successful black civilization” I was totally appalled.

        4. The most racist thing I’ve heard is how so sure they are that we will riot if GZ is found not guilty. They really think we’re animals.

    1. Did yall read he was also accused of molesting a kid?! Zimmerma’s past is all messed up. His own cousin says he hates black people. I kind of wish character was brought into the trial now. Smh.

      1. I feel you but Trayvon would have lost automatically on the character argument. Most of America doesn’t need much to label a black male as a thug. They know about Zimemrman’s messed up past but he’s still not black, so he’s not that bad to them. Sick, I know.

        1. It seems like whites are so blind to their culture and their own skeletons. I watch I.D-investigative discovery channel everyday and damn near ever episode is about some creepy white person stalking and killing someone, so if I were in trayvons shoes I would have fought back to. I become uneasy everytime i am followed by a white man, especially in my neighborhood. I wish the jury could see that this is a simple case of a child trying to get home armed with candy and a beverage, and this grown man that was sick of them ” always getting away” taking it upon himself to take an innocent life. But they will probably see it as a black ” thug” that got into a fight with the wrong man.
          – Happy Friday 🙂

  7. I think it’s clear the actual discussion going on right now is more interesting than Scrappy’s failed publicity stunt. LOL.

  8. The truth is George Zimmerman is a murderer who has done plenty of bad things in the past because his daddy always gets him out of trouble. If he gets off, he will just do something else.

    1. Maybe the IRS should look at his finances. I’m sure there is a greater chance of going to jail for cheating the government then he does for killing an innocent child in Florida

  9. If he was white this wouldn’t even be a story…..no one would even know about it. All the bad things happening in the world (especially the US) and all people can talk about is some sh-t that happened like a year or 2 ago that really has absolutely NOTHING to do with race. A kid died as a result of self defense on another mans part…..the end.

It’s a shame that he died but keeping this issue alive is only bringing retaliation and more unnecessary backlash. Lets let him rest in peace and move on for God sakes!!!
