The black community is still pretty much divided when it comes to certain topics like usage of the “N-word” but usually most can agree it’s a term most of us won’t be too happy to hear other races use. But when it comes to Hip Hop, a lot of critics of the music genre seem to think the continuos use of the word in rap lyrics isn’t a good look for the African-American community, and now that a NFL player is currently under fire for using the term in an angry manner, everyone is once again revisiting the word and if it’s okay for anyone to use it. Rapper Fat Joe caught some flak for using the word in his music since some feel a rapper who’s Latino shouldn’t use the word, but in his recent interview with The Breakfast Club he made it clear he’s not going to stop using the word because he says he’s “blacker than most black people”:
“By the way, I’m blacker than most black people. For the record. From the Bronx, I grew up 90 percent black people, half my family is black, I love black people, I am pro-Latino, I love Latino. I don’t see the difference. If you a black person or you a Latino, and they got sugar next door, we’re going to your house — I’ve always viewed us as one. Big Pun’s number one hit was ‘Boricua, Morena,’ together. You understand what I’m saying? ‘Why Fat Joe say the N-word?’ ‘Cause I am that n*gga. It’s just the bottom line. I hate it when J. Lo said it one time, I know she’s a superstar and she’s like, ‘Ahhh.’ I’m like, ‘Yo, you’re from the Bronx, you supposed to say, that’s what we say.’ Terms of endearment. We call our cousins that, we call our brothers that. We were just talking about a white guy that says ‘N’ all day and we never looked at him different. Why? ‘Cause the first time I met him he was with 20 black dudes and every wife he ever had was black. He ain’t prejudice. He’s just saying it as a term of endearment. It’s not our fault it turned hip-hop.”
In related news, Joe was sentenced to four months in prison for tax evasion in June. He begins his sentence on August 26, so he’s been doing a lot of interviews before he starts serving time.

No one should use the word. And the fact this fat a-shole thinks he’s blacker than most black people because he has black people in his family and hangs around us is the dumbest thing I’ve heard all day.
Hold on, what? He sounds stupid. I can’t believe some people are really arguing about who can say this word.
This is the kind of stuff that bothers me. I wish everyone would stop saying this word. No one has a right to say it because at the end of he day it’s still a hurtful word period when the right person says it. And Fat Joe is stupid. It’s more to being black than having black people in your family, listening to rap, and hanging around black people. This was offensive for him to say.
