Nicki Minaj sued for copyright infringement? Rapper Nicki Minaj is clearly the leading lady of the female rap game, and as the Young Money star continues to make hits and expand her multimillion dollar empire with new business ventures; it’s pretty clear she’s not going away anytime soon. However, with massive success comes lots of drama and Nicki might know that better than anyone. Not only has Nicki been beefing with fellow female rapper Lil Kim since she began to blow up (Lil Kim claims Nicki stole her image to succeed) but things have gone sour between her and her once associate rapper Gucci Mane.

Several months ago Nicki expressed that she was concerned for Gucci’s mental state and she said she hoped he get help (the rapper has many thinking he may be battling mental illness due to his bizarre Twitter rants against other artists) but Gucci made it clear in an interview that he felt Nicki Minaj wasn’t loyal. Gucci made the statement because he and others felt she left the manager (Waka Flocka’s mom Deb Antney) who helped her gain the buzz she needed to become a star but Gucci has since then fallen out with Waka as well. But Nicki has more drama on her plate than her issues with Gucci considering just twenty-four hours after she engaged in a Twitter beef with the rapper, it’s now been confirmed by the Chicago Tribune that she’s being sued by a Chicago artist who claimed she copied off his song to make her hit “Starships.”

Clive Tanaka says in lawsuit filed against Nicki and her collaborators RedOne, Carl Falk, Wayne Hector, and Rami Yacoub; that “Starships” sounds a lot like his song ‘Neu Chicago.” He’s claiming substantial parts of his song were copied and he’s filed a copyright infringement lawsuit in U.S. District Court of Chicago.

As of yet, Nicki’s camp has not commented on the lawsuit.

Compare the songs and let us know if you think Clive has a case below.

  1. Oh boo. When I read she was getting sued for copyright infringement, I just knew it was Lil Kim who filed the lawsuit…

    1. Oh whatever. Lil Kim was created by Biggie. Her lyrics were written by Biggie. And she had to get ghostwriters after Biggie died because she’s overrated. She’s finished. That comeback will never happen love!

    1. Doesn’t matter if she knew or not, she can still be sued right along with the producers. That’s why T.I. also sued with Robin Thicke. Everyone who makes money from the song can be sued.

  2. Maybe it’s just me but I don’t hear that much of a resemblance. But nowadays everything sounds the same or similar. #shrugs

  3. Oh here we go again. I don’t hear anything. I think this man was just looking for a way to bring some attention to his music.

  4. Nada! But at least he is getting some attention and putting new people on to his music. I’m sure that was the whole point.

  5. I can hear some similarities, but I doubt he’ll win. It’s not like she sampled the actual song, it just sounds similar. But the weird made me laugh a little.
