T-Pain took somewhat of a step back from the music scene for the last few years, but the recording artist is focused on making his comeback to the Hip Hop scene. And he’s not too happy about how artists today are using his signature sound which heavily relies on the use of Auto-Tune. In fact, just about every rapper out now uses it in their music to some degree, and Ciara’s husband to be Future has made it his signature sound in all of his music, which stays in heavy rotation on the urban radio stations. However, T-Pain says that artists are not using Auto-Tune right and they actually sound horrible.

In a recent interview with XXL Magazine, T-Pain got candid and revealed his feelings on his contribution to music and just why these newer artists can’t do what he did with Auto-Tune. He says:

“I changed music completely, so it is good to see that, but it’s terrible to see how horrible everybody sounds with it. I studied my craft, and I make sure I know how it works. I know where it comes from. I knew how Auto-Tune got invented. I studied the technology of it. Everything. Then I used it. But everybody else is slapping it on their voice and saying they got a smash.”

T-Pain has been very vocal about Future in past interviews and made it clear that he feels Future pretty much copied his whole style, but he tells XXL his beef with today’s music goes much further that Auto-Tune being poorly used:

“I want to get back [to] when people were actually moving in the club. You go overseas, they still play every godd*mn song from the ’90s. We come over here, just shoot a n*gga, and kill a n*gga. ‘F*ck this. F*ck that. I’m a dope boy.’ Godd*mn, dude! Not everybody [is] singing this sh*t.”

In related news, T-Pain isn’t just trying to make a comeback to music, he’s also trying to get his acting career to pop off. He landed a role in the upcoming “Fast & Furious” film (with Tyrese Gibson), “Fast & Furious 7.” He posted the following photo to Instagram below and writes in the caption:

  1. A lot of people won’t admit this, but TPain made some good music. Who didn’t love Buy You A Drink? Man please. Say what you want, but his music wasn’t half bad. Dare I say I liked a good bit of it. People just don’t like to give him props because they are embarrassed to admit the truth. LOL.

  2. I swear people never cease to amaze me. They always think someone stole something from them but coincidentally forget they stole it too. T-pain must have never heard of Zapp and Roger *yea right*. T-pain have a plethora of seats.

  3. Future is the poor man’s T-Pain. I hope he can make a comeback. I used to jam to his music in the clubs back in my college days.

  4. T-Pain did change music in a way because after him, everyone starting singing. I mean everyone. Kanye even made a whole album in auto-tune after he collaborated with T-Pain. I mean it is what it is. I can’t stand auto tune but his music wasn’t that bad. I like a couple songs. LOL.

  5. T-Pain didn’t invent auto tune, but I gained a lot of respect for him after I watched his Behind the Music episode. He’s very passionate about his music and he really did sit down and learn the history of auto tune before he made it big. I don’t think he has beef with Future, he’s just saying Future could make better music than he does and I agree. Future’s music sounds terrible. T-Pain’s was tolerable and some of it I actually liked. I can’t say that about anyone else using auto tune right now.

  6. I like T-Pain. I really do. I hope he can get back to making hits. He’s very close with a friend of mine and he’s a very, very sweet person. I wish him well!

  7. I hate auto-tune. But somehow he made it sound cool. I can’t even front. He didn’t invent it, but he made every rapper want to use it.
