We’ve known Mack Wilds had talent when he portrayed Michael Lee in “The Wire,” but these days he’s focused on establishing himself as a music artist. He released his debut album “New York: A Love Story” back in September, and now the singer has even more reasons to celebrate considering he was just nominated for his first Grammy.

Mack Wilds was nominated along with Tamar Braxton, Rihanna and Fantasia Barrino for Best Urban Contemporary. He tells MTV News how he reacted after his publicist sent him photographic proof that he had been nominated:

“As soon as she sent me that picture I didn’t even get a chance to [think things] out, and text messages started coming in, people started calling my phone. I looked on Twitter real fast and started seeing my timeline flooded. It was just a crazy, crazy moment in my hotel room in Richmond, Virginia.”

Mack Wilds says he isn’t expecting to win but he’s thankful he even got nominated:

“Honestly, with the competition that’s in it, it’s stiff. I’m not even going to lie. I felt getting in was a long shot; this is the epitome of a long shot.

“I’m the new kid on the block. Just the fact that the association knows my name, that they know who I am to even put me in the same category with the likes of these people. I feel blessed.”

He may not expect to walk away with a Grammy, but we expect even more big things from Mack Wilds. But in the meantime, check out his hit single “Own It” below:

  1. I’m so out of the mix! I didn’t even know this was his song! I love this song. I heard it on the radio the other day and they didn’t say who it was. Go Tristan!

    1. He sure was. Michael was definitely one of my favorites on that show. I just love that Idris, Michael B Jordan and Tristan were all on that show and they are all blowing up right now.

    1. Yes ma’am. I think they are like second or third cousins. But Tristan said they talk a lot and he’s been very helpful in his music career.

  2. I’m happy for him. I think his music career is about to take off and I like his music. Get em Tristan! 🙂
