R&B singer and reality star K. Michelle had a huge 2013, and her debut studio album “Rebellious Soul” topped the R&B charts in its first week, and even secured the second position throughout the country on the Billboard Hot 200 chart.
She also had a hit with her single “V.S.O.P.” and her tour was also a huge success as she performed for a number of sold out shows.
But it’s one thing she didn’t seem to enjoy too much, and that’s constant attention from the blogs.
In an open letter to her fans in which she said goodbye to 2013, she remained real about what she took away from her big year as a music artist. She writes via Instagram:
What a year I had. The overexposed Coochie pic, the constant media bashing, the very obvious shade throwing towards me, winning best new artist at the soul Train awards, #1 R&B album, to V.S.O.P hitting #4 on the charts! SHEESH I thought I couldn’t get any stronger but this year made me a beast! It was me against the world and I made it. I didn’t always handle things right, but I handled them MY WAY. Always honest and straight 2the point. I thank my Rebels 4 being my backbone, y’all fight hard 4me EVERYDAY. I love you. People can say what they want about me, and never give me the accolades I deserve, but they can never take away my gift. It’s even scary to me my ability to connect with so many strong people and broken hearts. I shook this industry up,They can stay mad, cuz to them I’m not supposed to be here right now. But I kept my middle fingers held high and focused on HEARTS not the CHARTS Atlantic Records and MBK have smothered me with love. Love I didn’t even have for myself. Who would’ve thought this little country girl that everybody counted out would make it this far. I’m not class favorite, never wanted to be, but I am the REALEST. You don’t have to like me, But YOU WILL RESPECT MY GIFT. My music I like this woman I have become. My momma prayed for me, and my God saved me. He is worth of all my praise!
I like her but I think she is kind of being a little too sensitive about the whole media thing. A lot of times she brings on the bad publicity she gets on herself, and if she focused more on the music and not petty Twitter beefs with Tamar, they would talk about all the other stuff much less.
It’s better for the media to talk about you than say nothing at all. When the blogs stop talking about you, your career disappears.
So true.
I like K but she brought a lot of this scrutiny on herself. I also hope she realizes the more famous she gets the more criticized she will get get it comes with fame. Even famous people who try to keep a low profile get criticized and she lives her life like an open book so it will always seem worse for her.
I’m still rooting for this ratchet girl. LOL.
She brought the media bashing on herself tho…
She can be a little too sensitive in my opinion. Does she not know how many R&B singers wish they could get the blogs to talk about them like K does? She gets a lot of support and media attention. Be thankful and keep it cute K. Without that blog coverage, how would people know about your album? Exactly.
She has really had a great year. I hope she has an even bigger one this time around.
So she’s like completely done with love & hip hop now right?
I think so. She has her own show coming out now so i can’t see her doing LHH anymore.
I don’t think she meant all blogs… Mainly “Bossip” and “MediaTakeOut”. Every story that you read from Bossip they are calling her bad names and slanting the story to make her look bad. If you notice she has backed away from Twitter completely b/c of this. But she has to protect her brand so I totally understand, but I am disappointed as a fan that she cant just be herself and let her us into her world.
