Richard Sherman went from quietly being one of the best cornerbacks in the  NFL to becoming a controversial star instantly in the league after he gave a rather passionate interview just minutes after he helped the Seattle Seahawks get the turnover they needed to beat the San Francisco 49ers and get their chance at the upcoming Super Bowl.

Sherman says his comments about wide receiver Michael Crabtree were a result of a previous run in they had before the game, but his passion was mistaken by ignorant people as “thug” behavior. Nevermind that he is from Compton and managed to nab a degree from Stanford with a 3.9 GPA.

Even LeBron James thinks it’s outrageous that some of Sherman’s critics are calling him a thug for his emotional interview with Erin Andrews.

LeBron defended the NFL player and called out those who are ignorantly labeling him a thug for being a little too passionate on the football field. He tweets (read from bottom to top):

  1. Amen! Ignorant white people use the thug word to replace the N word. It’s the same word in their book and they did the same thing to Trayvon Martin when Zimmerman was the real thug.

    1. Yeah the Trayvon thing was ridiculous. They kept trying to call Zimmerman a hero but he’s the one who had multiple arrests. Smh.

  2. LeBron said the truth. The whole Sherman situation really highlights the subtle racism this country has put blacks through for many years. It’s sad that a black man can’t gloat about being one of the best in the sport without it becoming a race issue. People are so stupid.

  3. I still don’t see why this became such a controversy. He’s always been a boastful and cocky player! I didn’t see the big deal when it happened and I don’t see it now.

  4. People were way too hard on Sherman but nothing made me cringe more than when I saw black people trying to tear him down because they were afraid he had “embarrassed” them to white people. Uncle toms.

  5. The one good thing about all of this is that it put Sherman on the map. He will probably get all kind of endorsement deals and stuff now. Thank you racists. LOL!

  6. The word thug is so misused when it comes to labeling our black men. Hopefully this situation will cause some to wake up and see that we still have a long way to go in this country and racism is definitely not over.

  7. I agree with Lebron, Sherman isn’t a thug. I can’t stand Sherman but him being classified as a thug is just ridiculous.

  8. I really don’t see what the big deal is about. He talked trash, backed it up and then talked more trash BECAUSE he backed it up. This is what he’s always done. People get outraged over the dumbest ish I swear.

  9. Funny how he’s called a thug meanwhile Bieber has been arrested for DUI and verbally abused the cops. Haven’t heard anyone call him a thug yet.
