It is with sadness that Urban Belle can confirm that legendary poet and writer Maya Angelou has passed away. According to multiple reports, the 86-year-old died due to a sudden illness.
TMZ reports:
Maya Angelou — one of America’s most famous poets — died last night in a Winston-Salem, North Carolina hospital while recovering from a mystery sickness.
Angelou was recovering from an “unexpected ailment” that sent her to the hospital. She died with family by her side.
Maya is well-known for poems “Phenomenal Woman” and “Still I Rise,” as well as her autobiography “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.”
She will truly be missed.

May she rest in peace. Her poems have touched so many people.
Her poems have always inspired me. She will be missed.
Now if Solange can see a bump in sales for karate chopping Jay Z, I surely hope Maya’s book sales will see a even bigger increase because her words are powerful and heal the spirit.
I really tried not to laugh at this and failed miserably.
This makes me want to go read all of her poems today. She was such a talented writer.
One of the best to ever do it. Period.
Sad.
Still I Rise is my favorite poem from her. RIP.
