Legendary actress Ruby Dee has a rather impeccable resume as far as acting is concerned, and she’s won multiple awards and received lots of recognition for her time on the big screen and for her works on Broadway. Sadly, the actress passed away Wednesday peacefully at her home in New York at the age of 91. CNN reports:

Ruby Dee, the award-winning actress whose seven-decade career included triumphs on stage and screen, has died. She was 91.

Dee died peacefully Wednesday at her New Rochelle, New York, home, according to her representative, Michael Livingston.

Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee’s husband and actor, passed away in 2005. In addition to having a very impressive acting career, Ruby Dee was also heavily involved in the civil rights movement. Condolences to her loved ones.

      1. So far this year has been sending some of the great ones home. First Mandela, then Maya, now Ruby.

  1. Ruby Dee had the kind of acting career a lot of black actresses wish they could have today. RIP.

  2. I’m going to miss this generation of celebrities. They relied on their talent and not being naked all the time and booty selfies on Instagram to make it.

  3. RIP Ruby Dee! I loved the movie, Black Girl. But, my fav was Jungle Fever, especially the scene where she was praying in the kitchen when Flipper brought Angie over to meet her and the Good Reverend Dr….. she will truly be missed!
