Philadelphia Eagles star running back LeSean McCoy is making headlines for leaving a measly $.20 tip at a burger joint in Philly recently, and the owner called him out on the restaurant’s Facebook page by posting the receipt.

The owner of Philly burger joint PYT caught lots of backlash for putting McCoy on blast, so he responded with the following via the restaurant’s Facebook page and says LeSean deserved to be called out because the server did an excellent job:

I would like to address the LeSean McCoy tipping situation and our role in it.
For starters, I take total and complete responsibility for sharing this receipt. It was not our server’s decision, it was mine. I am to blame.

I decided to take action after some serious thought. And while I’d like to apologize to Mr McCoy, I cannot in good conscience do so. I stand by my actions one hundred percent.

Mr McCoy and his three companions came into my place on Monday afternoon, and immediately the whole staff was excited. Mr McCoy is a skilled athlete and is one of our beloved Philadelphia Eagles. A true Philly legend and a sports hero. Understandably my staff was really pumped, especially on the heels of they terrific win the day before. (Go Eagles!).

Mr McCoy and his friend sat inside at a booth next to my management and next to me. They were given excellent service. Impeccable service. If anything, our server was a little nervous as was our food runner, because they are big, big fans.

He and his group, from the moment they sat down, were verbally abusive to our staff in the most insulting ways. The derogatory statements about women and their sheer contempt for the staff serving them wasn’t the end, however. After Mr McCoy and his group left I looked over and saw their server, my friend, with his head bowed down and with a very confused look on his face. I took the receipt out of his hand and I couldn’t believe that anyone could be so callous. Mr McCoy had left a .03% tip for our staff. Our staff that was beyond excited to see him walk into our burger joint and was excited to serve him. That’s twenty cents on a tab of over $60. Twenty cents that our server has to split with the food runner and the bartender. Two dimes from an insulting multimillionaire.

I bet Mr McCoy is usually an awesome dude. And everyone has their bad days. But I’m from Philly and have had the pleasure of meeting many of our bad ass sports heroes. Ron Jaworski I met as a kid and I love. Iverson I loved. Mike Schmidt! You name ’em. I love all of our athletes past and present. Hometown heroes who treat those below them with some respect. And maybe Mr McCoy was having a “bad day” after his big victory all that, but the reports of him receiving “bad service” is a complete slanderous lie, and my crew here is better than that and deserves better than that.

At the end of the day, I did what I felt my heart told me to do. And I don’t want anything from Mr McCoy, but…maybe an apology to his server who gave him excellent service would be cool.

Again, I am the owner and I take full responsibility for my actions. Eagles fans, I feel ya. Id be pissed too. But a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do and stick up for his friends.

Interestingly enough, the server actually admitted to Fox Sports that he did a terrible job waiting on LeSean and his party that day, and even forgot to give them appetizers. Rob K’Nelly says:

“He was sitting here, 3 friends were around him. I kind of saw it coming. I forgot their appetizer, it was my fault.”

  1. This isn’t the first time a restaurant has put a black athlete on blast for tipping poorly and not tell the whole story. Just because someone is rich it doesn’t mean they have to tip you. Mess up someone’s order and you’re lucky if you get anything for a tip at all.

  2. I knew that a-shole wasn’t telling the truth. I know people in Philly and they said LeSean is a cool dude who has never had issues with servers in other restaurants. If the server did a bad job, he deserves the tip he got. You’re not guaranteed a good tip. You have to earn that.

  3. Thank you UB. Something in the milk just wasn’t clean about this. And didn’t the same thing happen to Warren Sapp? He went to a restaurant a few months ago, gave some white chick a bad tip and she ran to TMZ and said he was horrible, blah blah but in the end they found out she kept calling Sapp a “boy” even though he asked her to stop. Smdh.

      1. Yep. And he kept telling her to stop because it was offensive and she would not stop. So he didn’t leave that bird a tip and she ran to TMZ like the evil witch she is and tried to play victim.

  4. These restaurants think they can bully celebs into tipping extravagantly and it’s not cool. Just like any other person, a celeb has the right to tip whatever they want. You forget someone’s order and don’t provide good service, don’t expect a nice tip.

  5. The waiter is lucky he got anything. I can’t stand servers who can’t get your order right. And the nerve of this restaurant owner for lying on LeSean. He ought to be ashamed of himself.

  6. This just reeks of a PR stunt to me. Whoever owns this restaurant knows their server dropped the ball but they decided to flip the story around to get some press at LeSean’s expense. Not cool.

    1. Right. I don’t live in Philly but the whole situation would make me not want to eat there if I did. Its just tacky and bad business.

  7. Off topic, I’m still salty I couldn’t get him on my fantasy team this year. Like Lawry’s Seasoning Salty salty. LOL.

  8. Social media is fast becoming human nature’s cess-pool!!! Nowadays anything can be posted, and you never know when it’s your turn multi-millionaire or not!

  9. Hey, you forget my appetizer, I’m liable to refrain from leaving anything at all. .20 was generous, especially if his service overall was lousy….aside from forgetting the appetizer.

I wish I got tips for exceptional work/service…. hell.

  10. I thought this was BS when I first heard it. There’s always a reason a celeb doesn’t leave a tip in a social media society.

  11. I really have to shake my head at this person writing as if he is standing up for the server’s honor when the server was the one in the wrong. How despicable can you be? He’s lucky LeSean isn’t trying to sue him for slander.
