Iggy Azalea hasn’t been able to enjoy her success much because she’s the constant target of backlash because many feel she used white privilege and cultural appropriation to succeed.

And in a new interview with Vanity Fair, the Australian rap star seems to think she wouldn’t be so controversial if she was a white man:

‘People have said I’m not real rap or real hip-hop,” says this year’s four-time Grammy nominee Iggy Azalea, “but I don’t care if people think I’m pop or rap. Everyone interprets music differently.” The nearly six-foot-tall Azalea (born Amethyst Amelia Kelly) grew up in the small town of Mullumbimby, New South Wales, and was always inspired by rock and roll and rap. At 16, she told her parents she was going on vacation, traveled to Florida, and never went back. After years of struggle and disappointment, Azalea, now 24, had massive success last summer with her catchy, ubiquitous hit single “Fancy” and No. 1 debut album, The New Classic. Here, she talks with Lisa Robinson about fame, shoes, and sex tapes.

Lisa Robinson: Do you think it’s weird for a white Australian girl to be a rapper?

Iggy Azalea: Well, I never thought it was strange. If you go back to the Rolling Stones and Elvis Presley and Eminem—they’ve all basically done black music. I felt this wasn’t that far from what we’ve seen in music history over and over again.

Do you think the criticism aimed at you is misogynistic?

Well, they don’t say that stuff about Macklemore. So, yes, I think it has 100,000 percent to do with the fact that I have a vagina.

  1. What rock was she living under? Macklemore was dragged up and down social media for his totally undeserved win. Folks didn’t cut him any slack. But the difference is that he knew how he got to where he is, and owned up to it. Iggy is always a damn victim!

    1. I was thinking that too. She needs to sit down somewhere. And can she NEVER in life compare her and Eminem in the same sentence? Lke never ever

  2. This is why people don’t like Iggy. She is always, ALWAYS a victim. And as much as she keeps focusing on who doesn’t like her, her album has yet to go gold. Maybe she should focus on fixing that instead.

  3. So where was this Doug looking b-tch when Macklemore was getting read for filth for getting that Grammy over Kendrick? Oh, never mind. I know where she was. She was riding some music executive’s d-ck so her trash a-s music would get more spins on the radio.

  4. Iggy never really bothered me …I even liked Fancy. But Lord this girl is really starting to work my nerves. Shut the Hell up please! You’re getting “backlash” because you’re wack…not because you have a v-gina and not because you are white. Maybe some of it…Nah there are plenty of white artists that do “black” music….Maybe they just do it BETTER!!!

  5. I was trying so hard to let this fraud live but she deserves to be dragged until eternity. She refuses to be honest about anything and even look at other people’s perspectives. And I find it ironic that she compares herself to Elvis. It’s really the perfect comparison. He was a huge, no conscience having, stealing piece of sh-t too just like her. I’m glad she can at least admit she’s a thief just like he was.

  6. She’s clueless. Not only was Macklemore dragged and still dragged to this day, but Eminem was dragged in the beginning too. But the difference is both Eminem and Macklemore were humble enough to admit they have an advantage because of their skin color. So eventually people began to be more accepting. And Eminem actually worked hard at the craft and proved himself. She has done none of that and she’s a total b-tch.

  7. This dumb broad here just really aggravates me. Has nothing to do with her being a woman or even white it’s about her being a phony. It’s a reason why Eminem and Macklemore didn’t have backlash they weren’t rapping with a southern accent from Australia.

  8. Look at the white media trying to give her a new victim schtick. Now it’s “they only don’t like me because I’m a woman.” So I guess the other victim cards didn’t work, so she’s on this one now. People make sure you don’t ever support Vanity Fair again.

  9. I guess I’ll add another magazine to my do not buy list. First Vogue starts kissing Kim K’s butt and now this.

  10. Her downfall is going to be interesting to watch. She’s gotten real arrogant and she doesn’t understand that even white artists have an expiration date.

    1. I can already tell you what’s going to happen. She’s going to get a Grammy and put out another flop album and have a flop tour. Some new it white girl will be popping by then and the media will start turning their backs on her. She will then pull an Azealia Banks and have a Twitter tirade and be all in her feelings. Remember you read it here first. Lol.

  11. She talks like she’s the first ever white female rapper. Kesha and Fergie have already done this and guess what Iggy, we actually liked them. Maybe if you weren’t such a snotty person who acted so entitled, people could like you too.

  12. I’ll be so glad when she goes away. I want her to get her Grammys and then just disappear. That would be nice.

  13. I will say that Em have earned his respect and he is and has always been original.

First time I heard of him was on BIG dead wrong remix and OMG did not expect

EMPIRE comes on fox tonight @ 9

  14. Did she really just acknowledge the historical trend of cultural appropriation, yet blame the backlash she’s receiving on gender discrimination?

  15. This is why I thank God for MP3 players. I don’t have to listen to the radio and support stupid artists like Iggy.

  16. I want her to give more interviews like this so people can see how self entitled she is. She really doesn’t care about black people and using our culture to stack her coins. And people need to know this.

  17. This girl annoys me. She’s going to destroy her own career. Aside from Eminem and Macklemore being men, they actually have talent!!!!!!! Damn man..I’m so over this broad.

  18. I actually used to like this girl, I kept giving her the benefit of doubt and at first thought she really was a victim. I downloaded Fancy and Black Widow for crying out loud. When she started gettting grammy nominations and winning AMAs over Drake (you know I stan for him), I really started seeing her for what she really is. What really did it for me was when she was nominated for Best New Artist and FKA Twigs (R&B singer) got a nomination for Best packaging. Seriously best packaging? Twig’s album is fire. What happened to good music? Iggy has fun bubble gum music, but good? Not really.
