A lot of controversy was birthed from Lifetime’s Aaliyah biopic, and Zendaya Coleman was eventually fired in favor of Alexandra Shipp due to online criticism.

While the movie was panned on social media and some figured Shipp would have problems nailing roles in the future, it’s now been confirmed the actress has been selected to play “X-Men” favorite Storm for the upcoming film.

E! News writes:

The next generation of mutants is shaping up quite nicely!

Bryan Singer revealed on Twitter Thursday that Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner and Tye Sheridan have been cast in X-Men: Apocalypse. The director confirmed that of the newly cast “brilliant young mutants,” Shipp will play Storm, Turner will play Jean Grey and Sheridan will play Cyclops.

You might not recognize any of these stars’ names at first glance, but there’s a good chance you’ve seen them before. Shipp, for example, recently portrayed Aaliyah in the Lifetime TV movie Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B. The 23-year-old actress has also had a recurring role on Days of Our Lives.

This comes just months after a petition started circulating the web demanding producers fire Halle Berry in favor of Lupita Nyong’o.

  1. It’s good that Wendy’s tragic fail, didn’t hamper her from getting more work.

Does anyone know if Wendy said anything on her show about the Whitney biopic? Last time I checked her IG, folks were calling her out for not talking about the movie after it aired.

  2. And this is why I said that Light Girls doc was a damn joke. Light skinned and biracial women have no idea what it’s like to be oppressed in the media. Storm is a dark skinned woman from Africa. She was not mixed like Halle and Alexandra. It’s like Hollywood does whatever it has to to keep dark skinned women out of movies unless they are slaves or living in the ghetto. Smh.

  3. Lol! Good luck with that. X Men fans are way worse than Aaliyah’s. They will drag her from here all the way to hell if she doesn’t deliver. They love Storm and they put Halle through hell. Let Alexandra do a bad job. Man they will make her life miserable.

    1. This. Comic book fans are the worst. They got Halle fired and now she’s back to TV gigs. Imagine what they will do to Alexandra if she doesn’t do Storm justice.

  4. Lupita would have been a better choice or Angela Bassett. But congrats I guess. She can’t help how color struck Hollywood is. They are always hiring mixed women to play dark skinned women in these movies. It’s really sad.

  5. Marvel made the biggest f-ck up selling the rights to Fox. They will never get the casting right for the majority of the characters. And it ends up hurting the films when most of the actors are trash.

  6. As a light skinned black woman, I am disappointed in the casting choice of a biracial girl to play the African, storm. I won’t be watching this one I guess, my own little way of saying FU to colorism

  7. Forget about the fact that Alex Shipp doesn’t look like Storm, she can’t act up save her life! I really hope she’s getting an incredible acting coach. Which is sad because Storm has had very few lines in the film compared to the other characters. Anyways, Sophoe Turner from Game of Thronea will be the prefect Jean Grey.
