Months ago it was speculated Marvin Gaye’s family would try to go after rapper T.I. considering they won their lawsuit against Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams, and now it appears a judge has given them the green light to move forward.
The AJC writes:
A judge has ruled that Atlanta rapper T.I. actually can’t do whatever he likes, at least when it comes to being a part of the 2013 hit song “Blurred Lines”.
In March, a jury found Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams, who sing on the song and are listed as co-writers along with Clifford “T.I.” Harris, guilty of copyright infringement and ordered them to pay $7.4 million in damages to Marvin Gaye’s family.
A judge rejected Thicke and Williams’ request for asked for a new trial. He also ordered that Thicke and Williams now only owe $5.3 million in damages, and that T.I. and record labels including UMG Recordings and Interscope should be held liable for damages.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, T.I. and the record labels will share in the $3.2 million damages tab, but won’t be held accountable for lost profits.
Lmao they cleaning up now
I knew this was coming.
Damn Tip.
T.I. is just a casualty in Marvin Gaye family going after anybody involved with Blurred Lines song. Honestly Pharrell and Robin should just be liable not T.I. but because he is listed as a writer they going after him too not really fair but it is what it is. Pharrell deserves the most blame had he just put Marvin Gaye as a credit he sampled for the song they wouldn’t even be going through this.
He didn’t produce the song tho.
A damn shame
