Siblings Jussie Smollett and Jurnee Smollett-Bell may have solid acting careers, but that doesn’t stop them from staying involved in activism.
In a recent interview with NBC News, they reveal their mother encouraged them to be activists while they were children.
Jussie says:
“We were given choices on who we loved on what kind of careers we wanted…all of that but we weren’t given choices on if we loved each other or whether we stepped up and fought for the rights of all people and living creatures.”
Jurnee adds:
“Mom was not somebody who was just commenting on television and watching it. She was actually active. She would take us to the voting polls. She would have us on the street corners holding signs that said honk if you believe such and such.
“And she would have us there volunteering with people…with the elderly. She would have us constantly engaged in debates at the dinner table. Any time there was an election, we were…well before we were able to vote, we were engaged with the issues.”
Jussie and Jurnee are avid supporters of the Black Lives Matter movement, but Jussie wants those who support the movement to be truly dedicated to the cause.

Yassssssssssssss
Their mom is smart as sh-t. You gotta start your kids off young or they’ll be uncle toms by age 12.
So impressed with these siblings.
Preach!
Love them both.
They are everything! A breath of fresh air!
In other words, they were raised right.
Awesome.
All parents need to read this interview. It’s so important we instill these kinds of values and love for humanity into our children from day one. Kudos to their mother. She gets it.
Teach them when they’re young.
I have to give them and their mother props. I wish more people had the same mentality. The world would be a much better place.
