Jussie Smollett and Jurnee Smollett-Bell Talk How #BlackLivesMatter Can Avoid Becoming a Fad

On the Black Lives Matter movement, Jussie says in order for it not to just end up as a fad, activists must truly be dedicated to fighting for the rights of all black people.

He claims oftentimes people pick and choose which facets of the black community to support.

He says:

“If black lives matter and all of y’all really believe that black lives matter, what does that mean to you? You can’t pick and choose when black lives matter and when it don’t matter when it’s convenient to you and your beliefs.

“So what does it really mean? Does it mean that black lives matter but not gay black lives? Does it mean black lives matter but not black women? Does it mean black lives matter but not black people who are suffering from HIV and Aids…not black people who feel misunderstood? No, no, no, no, no. You don’t get to pick and choose. Don’t spew that from your mouth if it is tinged with lies because your point is not well taken if you do not have your feet firmly planted into the ground of truly black lives matter.”

  1. All parents need to read this interview. It’s so important we instill these kinds of values and love for humanity into our children from day one. Kudos to their mother. She gets it.

  2. I have to give them and their mother props. I wish more people had the same mentality. The world would be a much better place.
