LA Reid recently dropped by to chat it up with Wendy Williams and discuss the details of the book.
And during the interview, he explained to her why he feels he failed Whitney Houston.

Reid appeared on “The Wendy Williams Show,” to discuss the book which was released this week, and explained that one of his biggest regrets was that he orchestrated Houston’s infamous Diane Sawyer interview that tarnished her image and further cemented the rumors that Houston was using drugs.
“I was so naive. I didn’t realize that there was an issue. I said let’s get Whitney with Diane Sawyer and promote the album,” Reid explained to Williams.
He added:
“She asked her the question about substance abuse and when Whitney said, crack is whack, my mouth dropped. I felt like I really failed her. My job is to protect talent and try to present them in a way that people will love them. My job is not to drum up controversy or drum up gossip.”

I love Whitney but she was an adult who made the life choices she wanted to make. Nobody was gonna save her or change her mind. Addiction is a hard thing to beat. If people don’t want to be clean, they won’t.
You can’t blame yourself for something you have no control over. Whitney had been doing drugs for years.
He wasn’t responsible for Whitney’s personal life. And it’s not always easy to tell if someone is using.
Agreed.
He has me wanting to buy this book.
Whitney’s demise is so sad.
I agree with everyone who said he can’t be blamed for the decisions Whitney made and it’s not always so obvious someone is dealing with substance abuse.
