In a recent interview with Essence, Remy explains why Nicki Minaj intimidates other female rappers.
According to Remy, it’s easy for a female rapper to see Nicki’s success and feel like that kind of career is unattainable.
However, she thinks with her return to the game, fellow female rappers may feel more encouraged and we may now see more female rappers come to the forefront.
She says:
“No disrespect at all but what Nicki was doing was amazing. But she was doing it so huge that I felt like it made other females feel like they couldn’t compete like I used to be sitting there like, ‘So no one’s going to put out any songs? No one is going to try to do anything?’
“And I feel like with me coming into the game, people feel like they can do what I’m doing. I don’t know if that makes sense. I don’t feel like I’m so out of reach.
“Even I look at Nicki Minaj and I’m like, okay she’s beautiful. She has this gorgeous body. She makes these huge records and even though I make good records and I don’t think I’m ugly at all, I just feel like people think I’m more of the girl next door. ‘If Rem can do it, I can do it.'”

Sounds weak to me. You don’t let anyone scare you away from your dream. Yeah Nicki may be on top, but why use that as an excuse to not even try? I’m glad Remy ain’t no punk like the rest of em.

I think this is part of it. I also think it’s really hard for anyone to make it in music now without a good team behind them. Maybe female rappers aren’t popping off because they don’t have the right people on their team.

Yeah this isn’t the right attitude to have. A little competition isn’t bad for anyone. I like that Remy said she thinks she’s better than the others. That’s how you should feel as a rapper. Rap is built on competition.
I like Remy and i think people her like her style of music will continue to listen but people who listen to lyrical rap arent the same people who listen to pop rap and i dont see remy shaking a-s nd titts to sell records so in my opinion its not competition their not catering to the same people
