‘Insecure’ Renewed for a Second Season

It’s official. “Insecure” has been renewed for a second season, and it’s all because the ratings have been so strong.

Hip Hop DX writes:

Los Angeles, CA – Issa Rae’s HBO comedy series Insecure has been renewed for a second season with an order of 10 episodes, Variety reports.

The Insecure creator and star shared the news on her Instagram with a celebratory pic of herself and the show’s writing team.

Insecure has averaged 3.2 million viewers per episode since its debut in October, according to the entertainment publication. HBO programming president, Casey Bloys says the show’s cast and showrunners should remain the same.

The LA-based program based on Rae’s YouTube series Awkward Black Girl has easily become one of social media’s favorite series to tweet and watch every Sunday evening, winning over viewers by tackling everyday, relatable issues, especially as it pertains to Black women. Hot button topics of race and gender fluidity, as addressed in this season’s ninth episode, are among the many things Insecure unapologetically addresses which is refreshing in its own right.

“The social interaction on Insecure is really strong,” Bloys says.

  1. I’m glad. This is one of my favorite new shows. I was expecting it to be like Awkward Black Girl but I’m pleasantly surprised by the differences.
